I did not install and it is required....no tickets in the last 8 years....let's hope I didn't just jinx myself! Look up previous threads re: this...it's been discussed before.
I've never installed them on any of my cars here in CALI... no problems so far [fingers crossed]
Thats including two pull overs. Most recently on the 997, Got a warning, the firts one was with my m3, a warning as well and no metion of the plates missing
I'm in New York (a two-plate state) and elected not to mount a front plate on my 997S because I think it really spoils the look. I was emboldened because for the last five years I've had two vintage cars without front plates (they came from states that didn't require it) and, again, I hated to spoil the look. I've never had any problem with the police. Indeed, once I was stopped in my '73 Dino by a cop who had never seen '73 plates (they're legal in NY for cars over 25 yrs. old). He let me go after he saw my registration and never noticed that I didn't have a front plate. And I know there are a lot of Ferrari guys in the NY/NJ area who don't mount the front plate and have had little or no problems.

do you look like Jessica Simpson and play dumb with the cops? How did you get pulled over and only get warning all the times? The only time I got pulled over, I got a ticket. Even after I told the cop that I was on the way to jury duty.
Install it?? Are you kidding?? Hell, I didn't even let the dealer drill the freakin holes in the front bumper. I made sure I told him 8 times "DO NOT drill holes in the bumper" during the 4 month waiting period.
I keep the bracket in the trunk with the front plate. If I get stopped, I will say I could not install it ("but here it is") because the dealer forgot to drill the holes in the bumper.
THPorsche:
Not a surprise. Nobody would believe that you were rushing to jury duty! Rushing to meet up with Jessica Simpson....maybe..... but not jury duty.
Nope, although it's required here in CO. I do get the occasional parking ticket from the parking enforcement dweebs. Usually, when I get pulled over, they've been tailing me doing somewhat in excess of the posted limit and don't bother to walk around the front of the car.
I'm thinking about taking mine off, I think I'm the rare one with a front plate. I'll remember about LAX; also West Hollywood is notorious for front license plate tickets. If I take it off, my intention is to put the plate in a "broken" frame and keep it behind or under the seat, so my story would be that it "just" fell off and haven't put it back yet. I will even have holes in my bumper to prove it was once on!
In Los Angeles the authorities have become more cognizant of cars without front plates because there are now so many "Red Light Cameras" which depend on a front plate for identification. If you do get stopped, or even get a parking ticket, you're pretty likely to get a "fix it" ticket for NFP (no front plate).
However, I don't have a front plate on my '58 Speedster and I won't be putting one on my '06 Carrera S either. In fact I've warned my dealer that if they drill my front bumper, they'll be replacing it at their expense. As long as it's a "fix it" ticket, I'm going without a front plate until I get nailed.
