Default Sport Chrono

Getting ready to upgrade our 996 cab to a 997 cab. From what I recall on the board, the sport chrono package makes a significant difference in handling/performance when in sport mode. But I really don't like the clock on top of the dash.

I assume one can't order the "sport" without the "chrono".

Would appreciate any comments.

Thr decorative wart is included at no additional charge...

It's really not that obtrusive.....

No if you order the sport chrono you get the clock its not actually as bad as it is made out to be.

Just cut a hole out of the underside of a Kleenex box and put it on top of it

I never had any problem with the stopwatch until people on this board made me think about it more - I still don't have a problem with it, it looks like it's high quality.

Definitely get sport chrono. Even at the price of the "wart". The benefits of the package are well worth it, and the "wart" really isn't that bad (although frankly its almost useless).

There are some long threads if you search that go into more detail about the sport chrono package.

Default The Wart

Actually, it is not bad at all. It makes for some interesting conversation and the benefits are absolutely worth it. You don't even notice after a while and it looks very professionally done.

Default The "ad nauseam" thread on Sports Chrono

Here's the last thread that was generated on Sports Chrono. Please read it, it's very thorough, it'll save you from repeating the same questions and raising the same issues, and save the rest of us from having to answer an already answered question. Pull up a chair, grab a drink, and read away!

It's interesting reading the above responses and looking at the previous threads--everyone seems to love the enchanced performance (no surprise), but none seem to mention they actually like the clock/timer. Seems most say something to the effect "I don't mind the wart" or "you get used to it."

Seems riduculous to me that Porsche would hurt the lines of the dash and make almost everyone settle for something "you get used to" when all we really want is the sport mode performance.

Make the stupid timer a separate option!

And we ALL couldn't agree with you more on that point!.... Maybe they will, soon. They should, if anyone there is listening....or reading.

I hope they are listening. That "wart," as so commonly and appropriately called, is unncessary and detracts from an otherwise beautiful interior.

I find it hard to believe that I have to choose whether I am willing to tolerate this to have a "sports" option in my Porsche.

Anyone out there who can defend the timer?

We discussed this over and over. Porsche will come with a change, I'm sure about that. The next version will be a Chrono with real clock with integrated stopwatch. The options will be Breitling, Omega or Tag Heuer, and you have to take one of them if you take the Chrono option

If you have the time and patience to wait, maybe the 2006 or 2007 version will have the option to take a Chrone package without the clock. In a few weeks we will know what the 2006 will bring in this area.

As said, I can see why people don't like it, but it doesn't bother me at all.

I doubt Porsche is listening, since most everyone is ordering the Chrono. What I'd like to see is a less ornate Face, one that actually looks like it was designed with the rest of the interior. The font on the numbers aren't even the same as the rest of the car.

I'm a perfectionist. Perfectionism has it's price. I ordered the car without that wart (S.C. option) because I simply must have clean lines and efficiency in the car. Wartage just takes up too much space, is too prominent, and I can see my friends snickering when I tell them that big aftermarket-looking appendage is for timing laps at the track. I have a simpler sport button in my M3 and it's kinda goofy. Would be nice to have the throttle maps though: just for fun, nothing useful about them for me.
