Hey Boxster Doc:

What state are you in? Are we talking about a base Carrera or an S? If you have the time and patience go with the 06. BTW, no 06's are on lots yet so you must be talking about an 05 with the 7K off.

Hi Everyone,

I am new to this board and have enjoyed reading all of the discussions which are very informative. I am in Oregon and would like to purchase a base 997 and have two questions regarding pricing:

1) For those that were able to obtain discounts off MSRP, how "hard" did you have to negotiate? Were the discounts pretty much offered up front or did you have to go back and forth quite a bit?

2) Since Oregon is a "no sales tax" state, if I was able to find a better deal out of state (maybe Washington or California), would I be subject to paying sales tax or would I be able to be exempt or obtain a refund since the car would be registered in Oregon?

Thanks for your help.

Let me say here in sunny so. ca no discounts to be had. On the phone most of the day and nada. Even on 2005 models nothing. I am talking about S models here. Of course they make you feel like you are lucky to be able to get the car. Whole thing makes me sick, think I'll sit it out with my 02 996 for a while longer and see how the economy shakes out next year.

I saw a black 997S at Hendrick Porsche in Charlotte, NC this week. You may want to give them a call and see if they will deal with you. If they'll give you a good enough deal you may come out ahead even considering the shipping/travel costs. When you call you may want to ask for Dean Aysee -- I bought my last Porsche from him and he was a pleasure to work with.

I don't know how the market is now but back in Dec. of 04, I got about $9200 off on a loaded base 997 in the NE. Socal dealers at the time weren't discounting at all. I guess they're still not discounting.
Anyway, I was also offered $7000 off on a 997S but lightly optioned. The price with both discounts would've been only $1000 difference in price but decided to go with a base since I thought it was more than enough car for the road. I still think that.

When I told salesman here in Socal I spoke to originally when I was in the market for a 997 the discount I received, he was shocked to say the least. He said it was probably one of the best deals he's heard of on a 997, base or otherwise.

When I ordered a well known American sports car a few years ago, I ordered it from a dealer on the East Coast with a good discount, and had it "Courtesy Delivered" in Los Angeles for a $300 fee paid to the local dealer. There were no additional freight charges (standard freight just redirected the shipment to Los Angeles). Can this be done when ordering Porsches?

I searched high and low and spoke to tons of dealers and there were no deals to be found on the west coast whatsoever. I finally just pulled the trigger about four months back and have a July 11 production date for my 06 997 S. I am so excited and can hardly wait!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I was also a bit reluctant to buy an 05 since it was the first model year, but from what I hear there are very few issues.

Yes- courtesy delivery is available for ordered cars. I talked to my dealer about having Cayenne delivered in Charleston, SC (I am in Austin, TX), and as I recall, charge would be $300 or so.

Thanks, Gary. This is good news. Many dealers in So. Cal. are flat sold out of their allocations, and, of course, that means no discounts (and even delays).

I pulled the trigger today, and jump on a July build, August delivery that someone backed out of at the last minute. Negotiated, if you can call it that, a $2000.00 discount off list.

To add another data point to this discussion, I'll note that the best deal I've been able to negotiate on a Carrera S (by calling dealerships all across the country!) has been $4,000 off MSRP. I have yet to see anyone willing to discount the car anymore than that (and have not spoken with any dealerships willing to do the $7,000 discounts some on this thread are claiming).
