Where do I begin, July of 04 I go in and put down 2500 on my new 997s. Car comes in and my salesman is in Cali, car gets sold out from underneath me. First call is from JD Powers on my buying experience. I told them I have not recieved it and would call them back. Called the dealer and it was sold out from underneath me. So I called back to JD Powers and told them the entire story. It was not 2 hours later and I get a call from the GM asking me if I would like to order another one at cost for my troubles. I agree, and we go through the process again. My car is in the build complete and awaiting its vin. I am still very exited to get this car, my Cayenne TT is great at doing everything but I miss my old sports car (996 Cab). The only problem is that getting any info is like pulling teeth with these guys. I have to call 3 times for everything, I still do not have my price. I have saved every piece of paper from both sales even my orginal cert of auth on my org. 997s(Porsche sent it to me). My only guess is that since the car is now being sold at cost the sales guys dont make $. I was just about to file on these guys and told JD Powers about it and then I recieved this wonderful offer, so I backed off, my Atty was ready to go for a DTP suit and had already copied all of my docs. I am just trying to do the right thing, and I think they are too. But sometimes I wonder. Has anyone else ever heard of a like story?
If they sold your car once, they could do it again. You are probably dealing with a a bad bunch. Not sure when your new car is coming in but if it is not due until next 4-5 months, I would definitly change dealership.
The story sounds fake
Two things don't ring true, nor add up
The JD POWERS tale, since no paperwork was generated for a sale to you.
Secondly, the Cert of Auth is not somthing that Porsche just sends out but is indivdualy ordered by the sales person from the dealership. If
there was no sale to you why would you receive it?
i received my cert of ownership from the salesman when i picked up the car. plastic laminate certificate. the dealer is probably trying to milk the excess demand for the car in the market and not waste an allocation on a zero spread transaction. you'll get your car when the froth comes off the market. still don't know the price??? that would scare me...
(snip the strange story...) The only problem is that getting any info is like pulling teeth with these guys. I have to call 3 times for everything, I still do not have my price. (snip more odd stuff)
So how exactly do you buy a car without knowing the price??? This whole story has a bit of an odor to it....
The story is real. I received a laminated packet with the Cert and other paperwork for the first c2s. And not only did JD call me but the sent me a little card in the mail for me to call them. I hopefully will get the price next week. I have heard 16-18 %off of sticker. So 87000 for 72000+- if it happens.
James, I don't know what you're smoking, but doing business with the group you mentioned, after what happened, is insanity. Doubt you'll see this 'car' you've supposedly got ordered. And the fact that you don't have a pro-forma invoice, and no status updates, well, let's just say it doesn't smell rosy.
When a car is reported sold in the porsche computer system, it generates the JD power call, and at the request of the dealer, can also generate the CoA to be sent to the customer. It seems to me that the first car was reported sold to builderjames prior to him signing all the paperwork and taking delivery, which is a process that happens from time to time. I would call the dealer and ask them for a pro-forma printout. THis is an easy process which should take a few minutes, maybe an hour due to scheduling, and not much more....
Hey Builderjames- What is the name of the dealer in Houston that has done this to you. If your story is legit then you ought to provide others with some more detailed info on this. I am the second person to ask you this question and we have yet to see any further reply from you. Besides the name of the dealer also provide the specific name of the sales person involved too.
Alfie, question for you; I bought mine back in 6/03, I never got a CoA from Porsche, I thought it was something you had to buy seperately, how can I get one?
I understand that the cost is 12.5% off of list and the dealer gets at least $2,000 hold back which he should give to you. If you were told cost or if you were told invoice will make the difference. The dealer can print retail and wholesale invoices off his computer even during production and you should demand a copy of the actual invoice when the car arrives. It has the Porsche crest on it. When my dealer had to sell me a car at invoice they delayed ordering it for about 45 days hoping to get some retail orders in ahead of mine.
