Can you put 17" Cup rims on the 997 equiped with 19" tires? I still have my snow tires from my 993... The dealer says maybe, but where can I confirm this.
Anybody else running with 17" tires?

This happens to be the solution my dealer is now investigating so that I can get snow shoes on my 997...but, I'm worried about going from 19" dpwn to 17" er's. Other opinions obviously welcomed. TIA.

I was mainly concerned with the possible changes in the handling dynamics of the car--Porsche suspension engineers specifically set this car up for 18 and 19 inch wheels...I'm sure you know about all this...therefore, worries do set in when talk of 17"er's arises. Maybe I need to just relax--they are just winter shoes--I'm not tracking the car with them on, right? I realize that with the taller aspect ratio, the ride is better..and the cornering/steering response is sloppier. Just don't want the car to be--off--with the 17's.

Things I read here and at other Porsche sites said the 996 and 997 were designed for 18s. At a late date, marketing said "people want 19s for today's bling-factor" (yes, I'm editorializing) so they had to modify some parts and pieces to accommodate 19s. I'm not an engineer, but as I understand it the only things we need to worry about are brake clearance and possibly tire diameter to keep the speedo accurate. If you run 25" diameter tires, shouldn't matter if they are on 17, 18, or 19" wheels. I've been running 17 snows for 3 years now (snowing right now) - on a car designed for 18 or 19 oem.

Appreciate your comments--I guess as long as the diameter is kept the same and the offset of the wheel accomodates the brake components--all should be good. Wish Porsche would have made sure that winter shoes were available for OEM 18 and 19's before the official launch of the 997.

Even if they are (and I don't know), why wouldn't you use 18s? There are plenty of them available, lots of tire choices, and they seem to work just fine for my 997S with winter tires, daily driver 10-15k miles per winter.
