Hello,

I have a Jan. build 997S and been trying to add the sport exhaust option XLF but porsche stopped accepting sport Exhaust option for now. The dealer tried twice this week to add it with no luck.
They were taking orders from Oct and now all of a sudden they wont. Has this happened before ? Any possibility they will accept this option before my car is built in Jan? I hate to do this after the car arrives and pay much more. Thanks

You might call Suncoast Porsche parts department (in Florida). They told me a month ago they had found the official part number and had ordered them. I realize you want yours built with it, but maybe they can help you with this information. However, with a discount on the parts, you might be able to add it later for about the same price it costs with the car. (996 option was, I think, $2,400; it was easy to buy the parts for $1,500, and $900 should be more than enough to do a full install with the cutoff switch, or $200 or less if you don't install the switch.)

nope.... ordered a dec/jan build with sport exhaust myself here in germany. they will not be able to build sport exhaust until feb (earliest!!). so i cancelled this option officially and agreed with my dealer to afterbuild it in feb or mar to the exact price from the options list.

maybe this gives a hint to you

sorry, neophyte 997 person here......I will be ordering
a Spring 2005 build 911S for delivery target of May 2005--
not sure of my exact build month just yet --
and I want Sport Exhaust from the factory if possible.

For those of you in the know,
if for some reason Sport Exhaust availability is delayed further
and we are prevented from factory Sport Exhaust
option when my car is being built, would there be ANY difference
in the final result between factory and a dealer Tequipment
installation?....including the cabin switch plate noise reduction
switch?

Does not appear that there will be a cabin switch for the Sports Exhaust!
The operational description from the 997 Tequipment catalog is as follows:Carrera S only P/N 997 044 200 01

Well...I thought one of the reasons they added the switch was because the noise was too loud. (Couldn't be imported). If that is the case, I am sure they would still need/have the switch.

Previous Sports Exhaust was Loud up to 35MPH then quiet between 35-45 than loud again. The switch allowed quiet sound at all speeds.

Reading the description of the 997S Sports Exhaust the sound is regulated, normal or loud by your right foot.

The description was from the GB 997 Tequipment catalog...no switch mentioned

guess I'd better try to wrangle a March/April build....in hopes they'll
have the factory Sport Exhaust sorted by then.

"With modified silencers incl. sports tailpipes (four-pipe look). Includes switch in lower switch trim mounting to reduce noise output to standard levels if required."

So...it looks like it has the switch.

Called my dealer in Sacramento CA and they will install the switch and the exhaust for approximately $3200 an I probbly can negotiae it down few hundered. The cost for ordering it with factory is $2400. They have been installing 996 with the switch and dont see any isue with instaling the switch for 997. So dont delay your order as it can be retrofited later.
I cant wait one more day to get my car.

I figured the noise-reduction switch would ONLY be available
if Sport Exhaust was done as factory option.

I just got the latest 997 Tequipment catalog yesterday,
....don't have catalog in front of me at the moment, but....
the 997 Sport Exhaust summary does not mention
a word about any noise-reducer type switch.

If your dealer is confident about obtaining the switch part of it,
putting it right under the radio on the switchplate fascia,
and the final result will duplicate the factory Sport Exh..
then terrific!

hate to leave the smallest detail uncertain, ya know?
