Default 997 C2S or 996 Turbo?

What would you choose, a 996 Turbo or a 997 C2S? The 997 will have the advantage in build quality, looks(in my opinion), a strong n/a engine, and the fact that it is a new car. The 996 turbo outpreforms the 997 in virtually every performance category but it will be used, and it is the Porsche model that never really seemed to fit into the Porsche family in my opinion.

So why are you choosing a 997 over a 996 Turbo? Thanks!

996 Turbo..this is still regarded by many as the best all round car in the world.
The 997 is not better looking than the Turbo the round headlights are crap like a VW the interior is a step backwards gone are the smooth rounded contours to be replaced by basically a Cayanne interior which cannot be easily customised.
Show these 2 cars to people who know nothing about cars and most would think that the Turbo was the newer car.

I'd choose the 997C2S. I'm not a fan of AWD nor turbo lag (but that turbo torque is sweet). I think the 997 is prettier and the driving reports have been very positive. However, if $$$ is a big concern, the TT's have depreciated alot already while the 997's cannot be had for significant discounts...

996TT - Performance, the right engine and tranny (derived/linked from/to the race cars). Brakes, suspension, did I mentioned performance? No worries with RMS leaks...

At the end of the day is whatever moves you... whatever is the style you prefer. The 997 looks amazing. A 997 Turbo will be a cool car when it comes out (all the above in a beautiful shell).

996 TT - Grant G, I'm not sure what your talking about (Turbo Lag) I have drove my amigo's turbo for one weekend and never once experinced turbo lag. The 996 TT is the best 911 platform I have ever experinced.

I live in Denver where the air is thin - makes turbo lag much more noticeable (as well as boost much more noticeable). I have driven a 996TT in California also and there is far less lag than most turbocharged cars down there, but the throttle response is still nowhere near as linear as with a nice normally aspirated engine. Maybe you're comparing it to your 951, which definitely is more laggy than the 996TT. However, try comparing the sharpness of the throttle response to your 993RS and I think you'll agree that the 993RS wins there (but not on power or torque once things get going).

I'd go with the 997s as well. Its just a matter of taste for me, I like the rear waistline of the 997s and the interior looks damn fine, except for the funky steering wheel. I'm not a big fan of turbos, but I do like 4wd ! Bottom line is they are both awesome rides, its just a matter of personal taste.

Having owned a first year production 964, 993 and 996 , all I can say for those awaiting the first batch of 997s is " Good Luck " , if history repeats itself. I'm not gonna go through that for the 4th time , Porsche !

Wink 996 Turbo prices dropping

I agree that the 996 turbo may be the better car. However, here are some considerations:

-I recently considered buying a 996 turbo (2001) with about 5K miles. During the conversation, the salesperson dropped the price from $89K to $81K - a tremendous discount, and a great deal - when the 997s come out these prices may drop even further and there may be great turbo deals out there.

-Maintenance costs for the turbo will be higher than for an NA car

-The 996 turbo feels heavy (I drove my brother's for a month), even on the track, compared to any of the NA 911s that I have driven (993, RS America, SC), even felt much heavier than my 92 Turbo S2. This is especially evident on corner entry and exit.

Just my $0.02

In response to MKW's post - Can you wait for the 997TT? Why not "slum" it with a 993TT (still my favorite "normal" PCar of all time) until it comes out ...

Like George says. Get the 997 styling with the Turbo power!! 993 TT. They are becoming scarce
and prices are going up but you can still get one with low miles for $75K and man can it be upgraded!!
600hp easy with ($$).
AND its an instant classic!! last aircooled last best looking etc. etc.

The 996 TT might be the better performer, but the 997S has a lot going for it. I just saw my first 997 in the flesh this afternoon. It's a good looking Porsche! The interior feels more spacious, and the exterior looks great. The 997 would be new with a four-year warranty, plus you could spec it to your preferences.

996 values are about to take a plunge. The 996 is now yesterday's model.
