Default What engine block is T672?

Hello,
I am looking to remote purchase a 997 carerra and asked for pics of a borescope for cylinders 4,5,6. I received this pic, which has raised some flags. Why was the head pulled? But first off, is this indeed a 997 Carrera 2 block? T672 returned no results via google. Help!

Wow! In my book, that is one huge red flag. It certainly looks like an M97 engine block, but I'm not sure what the T672 denotes.
Here's a pic of a M97 with a marking of T571, so maybe it designates the series of the block, early vs. later? With that said I'd be walking in the opposite direction of this sale, unless there is something super compelling about the car.

people on this board are alway going on about DFI engines having build up on the top of the pistons?

DFI engines get buildup on top of the intake valves, not on top of the pistons, and it's because the fuel isn't injected upstream to where it passes over the intake valves to keep them clean, and instead is injected directly into the combustion chamber. The amount of air and fuel in the combustion chamber with port injection and direct injection is essentially the same, so no difference on top of the pistons. Usually what collects there is burned oil from anything that gets past the piston rights, but that's independent of the type of injection used.

so what does that mean for the block pictured, it looks like the smallest bit of scoring on one cylinder, but does not explain why someone would tear down to that level?

Are you absolutely sure this is absolutely the block from the car you are expecting to be inspected? Time or date stamped, pictures of the car without the engine disassembled? Would hate for you to be getting catfished...

2009 C2S 198K miles

That must be a number from the casting company. There is another place the serial number is stamped, that is the number you want. I suspect you are a builder or someone who loves wrenching no? If not, given your short post, I would never buy a car that is taken apart like this... no way. If you are concerned about the engine being original to the car... well I think you have other things to worry about before this.

Peace
