Default Shifting into second still tough after trans is warm

2009 C4S

I started to feel the 1-2 shift become a little tough when it became cold in the Fall. This was my first cold season with this 911. I replaced the fluid with the Porsche labeled stuff. I think it was better, not sure, started double clutching/rev matching/ waiting for it to warm/ slow shifting etc... at the same time.
None of this is unusual to me having had 915's and G50's in the past. Its been warmer here recently and even after a good 20 minutes of driving the 1-2 is feeling a bit "toothy." I kind-of feel for the synchro to engage before dropping it into gear now.

Should I try a different fluid?

Something else?

I found some improvement switching to Mobil 1 Mobilube PTX 75W-90.

Mobillube PTX is the best fluid for these transmissions. If that's already what you're using, no further improvement available by changing fluids - will only be worse.

How many miles on the clutch? When was the last time the slave cylinder was bled using the fitting above the transmission?

This setup with MaxAxess type ratchet works great as you can loosen and tighten the bleeder without ever removing the tool or hose from the bleeder. If any air is in there it may be preventing complete clutch disengagement.

Is Molilube different than the Porsche brand? I thought it was the same - just in a different container? The clutch was replaced at 32k. I am now at 47k. I have not bled the clutch since I have owned it for the past 10K miles.

I believe the Mobillube PTX is the OEM fluid and why I said if you've already got that in there, no benefit from a fluid change. I'd try the bleed, but it's possible you just have a worn synchro from the at the PO drove the car. 1st and 2nd hear synchros are a different material than the other gears and why they feel notchy when cold. When cold the shifter should be moved slowly, but deliberately into 2nd. If the PO just jammed it from 1st to 2nd when cold, it could certainly cause a wear issue.

Is it typical to feel like you need to force into second when cold? I can usually double clutch and get it into second but it does take a fair bit of force.

I'll agree that a 'lazy' shift should feel smooth . . .

I have to change the oil and put on my Summer tires this weekend. I'll change the trans fluid again and look into the bleeding scenario while its in the air.

You don't bleed a .2 clutch. Different architecture.

Peace
