Default PDK TCU Tune

Hey Folks,

Anyone had a PDK Tune completed on a 997.2 or 987.2? Seems to be very limited information out there on the Internet (apart from maybe Cobb Accessport PDK Tune). Would have thought this would be a great opportunity to extract performance from the car. My 997.2 Carrera S had the PDK Firmware update from Porsche during prior ownership and the gear changes can only be described as too smooth, even in Sport Plus mode. Was hoping for a more race-like shift without clutch slip between gears

Was the TCU Tune worth it? What was your experience? Faster shifting? Less clutch slip? Too aggressive?

Any experiences very welcome!

Thanks,

James

One of the best upgrades I ever did was the Cobb tune for the PDK. Later I had Sam at ByDesign customize it a bit more.
For me it was a great upgrade as it made the car so much more engaging.

Test driving a friend's 991.1 TTS it was amazing how much better his PDK performed than my 2010 C4S.

To my knowledge, the mechanics are the same on both.

So, I am interested in these tuning options now.

Had it in my dedicated track 987.2 S and absolutely no problems or complaints!

What TCU Tune did you go for? Did you use Cobb Accessport?

Thanks!

That sounds very interesting - could you give some more info on Sam at ByDesign please.

To the OP - I also think my 2009 PDK could use some crisper shifts!

I asked a fellow board member this same question. Here is what he told me. I don’t think he would mind me sharing.

@bmwcousins
“Happy to answer your question. I have found that changing the PDK fluid and filter every 20k miles has kept it shifting snappy and smooth.

Regarding the software, I got a COBB Access port and used their PDK tune and was very happy with it. Fun and improvement for $$, that's what I would recommend.
byDesign, https://www.bydesignauto.com/ Sam is a tuner there that I have worked with on other projects and trust.

In my parts list I forgot to mention that I installed the https://flat6motorsports.com/product...BoCvI0QAvD_BwE soft inserts. That made a difference in the shifts feeling more solid, especially in sport plus mode. I initially put the sport ones in and that was super cool, but it caused some NVH that I didn't want for a daily.”

Yep, the AP. Got a few HP out of the tune as well.
