997.2 Tail Lights misaligned/crooked Adjust?
Hi All, in the middle of my 997.1->997.2 Gt3 bumper conversion - just got my heat shields so finally bolted up - my tail lights are looking a bit misaligned. Drivers side seems lower by a few MM and you can see the nut for the bumper behind it, see below.
Is there any way to adjust the seating bolt that the light slides into? If not is this just my bumper on a little crooked?
If anyone has time to snap pics of their 997.2 for reference of the lights i can try and re-ka-jiger some things.
Drivers looks like it wants to be flush with the lid
Passenger sticks out further
Can see here drivers is lower from the quarter panel by a bit, mind the tape
Thanks everybody

Open the engine lid and loosen the 1 screw that mounts the bracket on the light to the car - there's adjustability there for in/out, angle, etc. Get it positioned how you want, then retighten the screw.

Another tip... The forward, pointy part of the light, has a tong... make sure it is seated properly in the nub... on mine, I can miss it and if I do, it is out of alignment.
Peace

Thanks Bruce - if you have a chance do you mind catching a photo of your tails? I just wanna see how they're supposed to line up flush. I have a feeling my bumper is a litttttle crooked also. but that's what test-fits are for.

I'm not near the garage right now, but I can tell you the front of mine are recessed. Your pictures seem to indicate yours are not.
That brings up what Bruce mentioned ... make sure you're taillights are locked in at the front.

Do you have the bumper fastener in this hole behind the lights
Light also looks low on the front like you missed the slide on mount

Thanks for the feedback everyone!
So i checked, then double checked everything - even going so far as dropping the rear bumper and side heat shields to re-fasten and align everything again.
While my bumper was off I put on my old tails and everything aligned - but then still my driver side 997.2 Tail was crooked even without the bumper.
This reduced the only point of failure to the actual tail unit. Or the fastening bolt on the car’s body. I measured and checked the fastening bolt and those were aligned.
Lo and behold:
The guide for the forward receiver is misshapen - almost inverse of what it “should” be. The lower prong is significantly smaller, and the upper is larger, forcing the tail light to sit lower towards the front of the car.
Im not crazy!
Ive contacted where i purchased them and am warranty-ing a replacement.
I’d like to thank everyone for helping out and sending pictures to verify fitment. Ya’ll rock.

Nice spot. Plus an odd failure. Hopefully this was a one off casting error. Good luck with the replacement part.

Just got my second set - same issue on driver side.
I purchased a cracked donor unit that i’m going to steal the back plastic off of and see if that solves it.
Seems to be a casting issue on the new ones and hoping an older unit will suffice

I ran into the same issue as you did. I recently purchased a 2010 997.2. The left rear tail lamp had a crack and water basically fills up in the lamp. I purchased the OEM "ULO" branded light from pelican parts, after speaking to a specialist that confirms this lamp is the one that Porsche rebrands. I also purchased a Porsche Boxed/Branded tail lamp from Gaudin Porsche of Las Vegas. Both have the same part number, look the same, etc.
Both lights do NOT fit and are misaligned at the bottom and top where it meets the body. The stock light that's been in the car since the original owner's purchase, slots in perfectly. After pretty much going through the same troubleshooting you did, the new lights (ULO or "Porsche") have the same issue and I think you are right in that this is a molding problem. One thing of note, the original light was made in Slovenia, the one ones in Bulgaria - could be the casting that the new producer uses.
I'm very unhappy with the alignment because it's very apparent. I'm curious what approach you followed to remediate the issue?
