Default Removing stock spacers

Hi all. Have got a 2007 997 Carrera. Recently I got new tires but they stick out well past the wheel arches. Car was lowered by previous owner thus while going over bumps the tire would run on the body. So I decided to remove the stock “spacer looking things”. Now the car sits well and looks well too but I was curious, are there mechanical implications to this? Also I’m not very mechanically oriented yet so what I have removed may not be the spacer at all lol. Did the 997 come with stock spacers?

5mm spacers came as a factory option on some models, and standard on others (GT).

Attach a picture or I can’t be sure you didn’t remove your hubs. Haha.

All jokes aside- if they look like large washers and are screwed to the hub, yes, those are spacers.

You are unlikely to notice a performance difference.

I don't know what you had on your car but the only 997 "stock spacers" I've heard of are on the GT3. Maybe there are stock spacers on others of the more exotic variants but I'm pretty sure the GT3 came with spacers from the factory. On a 997 base or 997 S, no factory spacers. AWD or RWD.

GT3 has 12" wide rear wheels. Can't imagine it needed any spacers with it also being a NB car.

OP, make sure you're using the OEM length lug bolts as you can damage the parking brake assembly in the hubs if the bolts are too long. Remove 1 front lug bolt and one rear lug bolt and compare the thread lengths. If the rears are longer, buy 10 standard length bolts and replace them.

I know for, at least for the US market. all passenger vehicles must have the ability to mount snow chains. The wheels are "sucked in" a bit to provide clearance from the fender. To "correct" for this, 5mm spacers as a factory option is pretty common.

I have attached the photos. Don’t recall them being mounted with screws. They were just…on there lol.

Get rid of those - for one, they're not hub-centric and can cause vibrations, and they're all rusty which may keep them from sitting perfectly flush against the hub or wheel.

I've got a launch edition 2009 997.2 C4S that came with factory 5mm spacers on the build sheet.

Buyer's option I'm pretty sure. I had the same launch edition 2009 C4S. No spacers.

Those are the optional from the factory 5mm spacers. Yes, rusty/dirty, but are a factory original part available as an option.
