Default How concerning is this?

My buddy is looking at buying a 997. This is the photo from cylinder 5. The owner put the low temp thermostat in, uses dt40 oil and ethanol free fuel.

This car was originally from Arizona, currently in eastern Washington.

paging @groovzilla - I'll let one of the experts chime in as I'm no 997 expert. Read somewhere that all cars would have some level scoring, not sure what is considered acceptable or normal though.

The knowledge folks would reply in the am. I curious to hear what they say.

If cylinder 5 looks like that, cylinder 6 is even worse. Walk.

Unusual, but ok. Cylinder 5 isn't though.

The owner of the vehicle should be running FR50. I would not buy this car unless you're factoring in the price of an engine rebuild down the road -- how far down the road remains to be seen, but that engine is wounded.

2009 C2S 193K miles

That engine is scored, it is on its way to total failure.

Peace

Light scoring.....factor that into price.

Engine most likely has a good amount of life left in it.

Change oil to FR50, but keep in mind a rebuild will be likely in the future. How long, who knows.

My humble 2 cents.
