Default 997.2 Targa 4 ticking sound

Hi everyone,

I am new to this forum and to Porsche world, I just purchased 2010 Targa 4 150k km in great condition the old owner almost kept the car without using it for 10 months.

the problem started when I start to here some ticking sound from the back side driver side and i am sure its not the normal ticking sound from dfi i can hear both different sounds, the first thing i did i replaced the oil and oil filter thinking maybe because the car is not driven for a long time however the sound is still there so i went and i did the bore scooping test and i will attach the photos, from my little experience the cylinders looks fine with some wear sings due to the high mileage and i did a compression test and it was fine also.

i tried to trace the sound i believe its coming from the area close to the HPFP.

one thing to add it might help the car at low rpm 800-900 vibrate and act little bit weird,

i need your help as this sound driving me.

crazy

Those are not good Bore Scope photos.
Even though they are mostly unreadable and out of focus photos, you can see some scoring.
I suggest you re-scope and get better photos

Stuck lifter can sound like a tapping or ticking sound, not a big issues, common if the car has not been driven for a while - cure seems to be drive drive it a while and see if it goes away.

Dont jump on the “bore scoring bandwagon “ just yet. The DFI motors are very solid and do make a ticking sound anyway- from the factory. Could be the that it simply needs a fuel injector cleaner added to a few tanks of gas, and a good ol Italian tune up.

As for the vibration at idle, check the motor mounts. If they haven’t need replaced lately you are very likely getting vibration from the engine moving around. If so I bet the passenger seat vibrates as well.

Totally agree - However if he has the Bore Scope tool and wants condition of cyinder walls, why not do inspection again with better sharp photos.
Knowing condition of your cylinder walls is great peace of mind.

2009 C2S 191K miles

Buy a cheapo Harbor Freight stethoscope and start poking around. My .2 engine is noisy... they just are. I can't say for sure if yours is OK or not, but I would try to isolate where the knocking is coming from. The possibility that it is some sticking valve is pretty low to none per the engine builders that used to post here on Rennlist.

Peace

Thank you guys, finally i took the car to a specialist and we found the ticking sound from where it was from the fuel pump ( :.

he advised me to not change it and to use the injector cleaner for a while and the sound might go.

Hi, it wasn’t a bore scoring at all it was the fuel pump that causing this sound.

I think Ed99 is saying that while the noise may have been from the fuel pump, your pictures seem to show evidence of some scoring. Both things can be true.

You would have found that out in less than a minute with a stethoscope. The first places you put it is on the pumps and tension arm. That is how I found my bad waterpump after chasing pulleys and such. My point here is that all of us should have one of those cheapo stethoscopes in our kits.

For peace of mind, or good advice, you may want to contact Charles Navarro and ask him what he thinks of your pictures.

Peace

i took to two different specialists and they confirmed its the normal expected wear signs for a car with 150,000 km.

and the car has no symptoms at all and the compression test cam perfect.
