Thanks and yes from those pictures you showed us...definitely some bore scoring unfortunately. Not as severe as some I have seen.

To add to this thread, I just did the same exercise to my own 997.2 and it remedied the ticking noise from the HPFP, after about a tank and a 1/2 of gas with added injector cleaner (bottle per full tank). Engine has never sounded better (6500 miles) . @Mana3y, thanks for reporting back that recommendation - it worked for me. Now to the oil change...

As for the vibration at idle, check the motor mounts. If they haven’t need replaced lately you are very likely getting vibration from the engine moving around. If so I bet the passenger seat vibrates as well.
How often do people add fuel cleaner to gas? Any good ones you'd use? I know they should have polyether amine additive.

For me? Within 200 miles before my next oil change based on what most advise. I normally throw in a PEA-based concentrate DFI cleaner, but this time I used Techron complete fuel system cleaner, 2 tanks, 1 bottle per tank. I was surprised at how fast my HPFP quietened down (and it sounded similar if not identical to the OP video posted). The sound of the HPFP is definitely different to the typical DFI injector click and in my case, sporadically louder at times. The Techron made a considerable difference. Due to age, I could not read the &#@!ing 4-point text font size they like to grace these bottles with, and despite a lot of squinting, could not make out poly-amine additive listed in the contents. I assume it has it.

Agree with a few above… .2 motors tick, they just do. Unless you’re consuming oil or oil filter sparkles when it’s cut open I wouldn’t worry. You’d also start to get misfire codes . My indy shop has only seen one in their history and it had 175k miles and no history… change the oil often or when it’s due and no long warm ups and you should be fine. My motor has 44k miles and ticks too.. I drove it from Chicago to MN and it didn’t use anything.. averaging 80 plus mph when the ambient temps were 97F

What's the best PEA fuel system additive to use if I use once a year before the winter-put-away oil change? If I put it in, do I need to make sure to run that whole tank before putting the car in storage?

Well I used it on both my 997.2 and the 987.1
so I’d say yes as well
