Default 997.2 V1 Radar Install

Greetings,

I'm attempting an V1 radar detector install into a '09 997.2S with auto dim mirror using a Blendmount mirror tap kit. I removed the trim from the point where the mirror is mounted to the windshield and found a plug in the bottom back of the mount. A pic follows. Has anyone had experience with this plug? I believe the thicker brown wire is power but I don't know which wire is ground. Thanks

This is true on Porsche and BMW (maybe even MB). Seems to be some kind of a German standard??

BTW and not to nitpick, but only the solid brown color wires are ground since there are also stripped brown wires combined other colors.

Since I run the remote V1 display (on top of the steering column) on my 997.2 I ran the connecting wire down the driver's side A pillar and under the trim pieces to the V1 OBDII connector. Then from that connector I ran the extra cable up to the remote display. That handled switched power and everything at one time.

Disconnect to battery and wait a few minutes before removing the trim pieces to remove the A pillar trim to avoid an airbag error.

I also formed a piece of aluminum to the roof so this could wedge under the sun visor clip and mount the detector high up on the windshield to help hide it from enforcement agencies. Flip the visor down and the detector disappears. There are pictures of this somewhere on this Forum. I lent my car to a friend so I can't snap a new photo right now.

I powered mine from an unused, keyed power source in the fuse block. The remote display is on top of the steering column, and the wire to the V1 itself was run behind the A-pillar trim and hidden over to the mirror/homelink buttons. Only about 8” of wire is visible that connects to the V1, and maybe 2” to the remote display.
