Default Short starts - car wash

I'm curious - how many of you push your car into your driveway to wash it? How many of you start it up, back into your driveway for a wash (very short drive)? Today I went for a longer drive, then parked in my driveway knowing I was going to wash this evening. After the wash though, I moved the car.

I would imagine if you take your car to a mechanic, they're going to start it once in awhile to move it around, yeah?

It’s a car, not porcelain. Yes, you should avoid frequent short trips before the engine gets to operating temp. But I’m not going to lose sleep over moving it for a car wash in my driveway. I’m not doing that several times a week.

I try to avoid starting my car for things like that. I’ll push it in and out of the garage. I figure every little bit helps.

I drive it. It will be fine. Might throw some blue smoke on restart because of the quick move but that's not a big deal.

More dangerous to drive your car through a car wash!

I try to avoid the short trips in the fall/winter, in the warmer months, above 60F, I don't see an issue.

I have a sloped garage, so I can roll out with the car off but not back in. I usually take the car for a quick spin just to bring it up to temp before I wash.

Quick spin before a wash, or just shut it off quickly. Its not a huge deal, it doesn't happen often.

I've heard people say they refuse to start these engines for short periods due to wear. Just wondering how far that extends

Me too. As a new 997.2 owner, thanks for asking the question!
