Hi All,

I'm the original owner of a 2010 911S Atlas Gray coupe (6 speed) with 120k miles. No over-revs, clean CarFax, 95% of maintenance done by Porsche garage. I was trying to get some opinions of market value? I was considering selling it on BaT. Thoughts?

Have you had a Bore Scope Inspection?? This is a must for any buyer these days before establishing a value

If Bore scope Inspection looks good I would estimate a value of about $45-$47K - If BSI looks bad maybe $35K

9A1 motor. Likelihood of damage occurring while doing a bore scope is probably higher than the likelihood that this motor has bore scoring. If you had a 997.1 then any PPI should include a bore scope. The metallurgy changed with the 9A1.

At that mileage low $40s to $45 depending on other options and condition - interior color, full leather, sport seats, PCCBs , PSE, etc

Too high a mileage for BAT - you're better off selling it here or in the PCA Mart and will save you a lot of hassle.

Also with 120k on the odo if it had scoring there would be obvious signs. This car is probably going the distance. Bruce has 190k on his ride. Having said that, asking 40+ grand for any car with 120k is asking a lot. Even a 911. If I lost my ride to an accident or something and really wanted another of the same make etc.. and knowing what I know about how reliable they are I would be willing to go 30's for a 120k ride but not 40's. My 2c

Someone might pay a premium for a 1 owner car complete with service records. 997.2 manuals are in demand IMHO.

I’d list for 45-47.5, higher if full leather, PSE or significant mods.

If seats worn, paint in bad shape, dents, etc I would start at 40k.

Likelihood of damage doing Bore Scope Inspection?? That's a first.
What sort of harm/damage occurs on a higher mile engine when removing spark plugs and taking BS photos??

Cross threading plugs, snapping plugs, damaging bumper or mufflers during removal, damaging coils or stripping the screws that hold them in place. Not likely but things can happen. No idea which is more likely.

Here in Los Angeles Porsche dealers will not do any kind of PPI and the good Indy I found strongly felt it was not necessary.
And some experts feel a look thru the spark plug hole is useless anyway, and that you have to drop the pan to see the base of the bore. Good luck getting a seller to agree to that

Every Porsche Specialist Indy I know in Seattle does Bore Scope Inspections - And I've had them performed in LA, SF, AZ & Houston when shopping for 997 - Porsche dealer in Bellingham Wa and Porsche Burlingame in SF does them and I've used both for BS Insp.
Going through the spark plug holes reveals 90% of the cylinder wall ---->I call BS on only having to go from oil pan. I have lots of boots on the ground experience w/these inspections and have pissed away a lot of money on them but have always saved my *** and always thru Spark Plug Holes..

If you review photos of Bore Scoring, you will see in 98% of every photo you can find will show scoring on at least 75-85% of the cylinder wall.
I'll stick with my foolproof Spark Plug Bore Scope Inspection especially on a car with higher miles - If there's scoring it will certainly be visible

**The bottom 2 photos are from 2 997S cars I has scoped and was hoping to buy. Marque Motors Indy in Portland did the Spark Plug Bore Scope Inspections on the 2 different cars
All done thru Spark Plug Holes - Last photo shows cracked cylinder wall on right side of photo and on left side of that photo is scoring more pronaounced at the TOP of cylinder - Go figure :

^^And here are some of the Spark Plug Bore Scope Inspection photos from my current 2006 997C4 that I purchased in November of 2021 w/106,300 miles which was only 1000 miles ago. (I use my car infrequently).
Done at Aker's Porsche my Indy for 36 years during the PPI and one of the best shops on the West Coast. They'd be laughing pretty hard hearing the "experts" claim it is useless going thru Spark Plug Holes.

In my 7 or so Bore Scope Inspections I've had done on 997's with over 80K miles (Including my current 2006 C4) none of the above issues have ever happened.
If a car has been regularly serviced, higher mileage cars have had these parts removed/replaced before so not like 1st time removal.

In Nov. of 2021 my current 06 C4 had 106,300 miles and was PPI'd & Bore Scope Inspected thru Spark Plug Holes All smooth sailing but car is well serviced, coil change and plugs at 100K miles which means the heat shields were removed/replaced for the work done.
Bottom line Spark Plug Hole Inspection has been good to me and I wouldn't change lanes. Seems crazy to me to spend close to $1000 to go thru oil pan process for basically the same results.
I've never seen scoring limited to the very base of cylinder wall/hidden by Piston so it cannot be seen from above?? - I'd be curious if a photo exists?

No need to derail a thread about selling a 997.2 with a bore scope.

As an owner of a 997.2, if I were selling, I’d tell you to take a hike if you wanted a bore scope. It’s a car in enough demand and with a very low risk of bore scoring that I wouldn’t be worried about finding a buyer.
