Audio upgrades

Thinking about copying Petza914 setup but looks like the Focal mini subs are no longer available. Anyone have a recommendation for a similar small speaker for the low end that will fit in the existing Bose box?

Maybe look on Facebook or eBay or someplace. They're pretty awesome once driven by the proper size amp.

The installation looks great. I have always loved car audio since I was a teenager and had all High end Rockford Fosgate Pro series equipment in my cars back then. It sounded fantastic. I really miss it so I will live vicariously through your thread. I'd like to think Most of my old equipment stis in a bin in a basement closet. I'd like to think I'll put it back in a car someday.
I'm curious how the sound field and imaging come through in a Cab. I imagine all the power there makes up for any losses. Keep up the good work.

I, too, have always loved car audio. I worked in it for years back in the day and am very familiar with Rockford Fosgate’s products. I wish I had kept all my old Nakamichi, a/d/s, and Soundstream gear from back then. :-)
Great question on the sound field and imaging. That’s something I’m really working on now, via the Audio Control DSP and a bit of the built in DSP in the Kenwood head unit. It’s tough and not that great…yet. I’ll be happy to report back after I’ve played with it more.
However, the volume level and enjoyment factor with the top down has gone WAY UP! No issue with enough volume now, which, in and of itself, is really nice.
Again, thanks for the interest.

Cool stuff. I'll follow your thread, especially since I also have a SY Cab as well.
My car audio heyday was back in the 90's. RF was king of the hill back then and had the absolute best sounding amps, speakers, and processing back then in my opinion. It could make anything sound good. From The Isley Brothers to Slayer. I'm not sure how it stacks up today. I still have it all. Your thread makes the gears start turning in my head, want to put it back in a car. I assume the speakers, etc are still good after 20 years.
Yes, all that stuff was good. Nakamichi heads, Soundstream and JL amplifiers. I was always partial to RF and Alpine head units. Just seemed to have a deeper, warmer sound with very good highs. Had a RF preamp, a PA1-HD and an Alpine 7903. Made a huge difference in sound and gave infinite adjustability.
Man, this has me thinking. LOL.

These days, the DSP capabilities are really cool.
And, there are so many new, cool techniques that are fun to play with too. Tech flex, using the router table for amp racks, new connectors, I’m just a car stereo geek so all the things I couldn’t figure out in the late 80s and 90s now make sense.
Come on along for the ride and give it a try…again. Lol

I made a great living and had way to much fun in the car audio business back in the day. I do miss it and have slowly been getting back into it, bought a bunch of JL audio stuff recently. What I do feel is lacking are good head units and source material that’s as good as an old school CD. I’ve been using Tidal but it’s not the same. I’m not going to be buying CDs again lol

With a convertible I don’t feel it’s as big a deal, but definitely agree conceptually.
