Default "hot oil" smell in cabin

New to the 997 world - bought an '06 997.1.in early Dec. Since I've had it I've noticed a slight, but noticeable (and slightly annoying) smell of like hot oil in the cabin after the engine has warmed up. There haven't been any signs of an oil leak - ie spots on the garage floor, but I haven't really been under the car to have a better look either.

The previous owner did note that the rear main seal had begun to start "oozing" oil, but not enough to create a drip. I'm thinking this may be the source of the smell.

Anyone else hear of this? Or is this common?

Thanks for the reply and link to the old "smelly 997" post.

Not really sure what cosmoline smells like, but after reading some of the replies in that post I will add that it is definitely not a smell of hot or burning rubber. Not even of burning oil - just hot oil smell. I generally like the smell of gasoline and mechanical things, but this is not particularly pleasant. Not a foul odor, but not pleasant either.

When the engine is cold there is no smell and haven't noticed a smell in the garage where the car is kept, even when the doors have been closed.

Cosmoline smell should be long gone on an 06 engine. I have never smelled any sort of burnt oil smell in any of my 997's even after parking it in my garage.
Could be you have an engine oil leak somewhere that's dripping on exhaust or on engine.
If your car is a Manual Transmission, the Rear Main Seal is notorious for seeping oil after time. That oil drip laying at bottom of outside Bell Housing can get up onto the areas of engine/exhaust mentioned above from driving airflow and cause an oil smell.

The weird part is I only smell it when I'm driving the car, after it gets hot - inside the cabin. I pop the sunroof and turn on the vent and helps to dissipate it.

I really don't smell it outside the car.
