PCCM+ DIY Guide
#151
Installed a PCCM into my 997.1 and added a backup camera powered by a relay - triggered off tap into reverse wire at taillight. But, when auto configuring PCCM, no rear camera is detected.
I’ve measured 11.9V at the reverse trigger PIN6 when MT shifted into reverse and 0V otherwise. I’ve also confirmed 11.9V at my camera, and 1.1V at the video input going into the adaptor for pin9/10 at the PCCM.
Does the voltage need to exceed 12V in order to trigger the PCCM? (Haven’t driven the car in a few weeks so battery is reading < 12V).
Any other measurements to check? I’ve got a portable video display on order to verify video output, and I’ve ordered a 110 to 12V adaptor to hard-wire PIN6 for verification.

Did you try the auto configure with the car running and in reverse? When I did mine, the car had to be running in order to detect the camera.

If you want to use the Batwing for the USB connection board, I designed this guy for my printer. figured I'd share the file if anyone needs it.
https://www.printables.com/model/993...us-radio-upgra
The install on my 996
just unscrew the board from the square case and it mounts to the batwing/case. instead of the glove box or passenger seat

Thanks @jgoga for the nice usb relocation cables. I spliced in an additional rear usb to the cable lenabling me to run:
1) wireless CarPlay adapter in glovebox from rear usb (previously the front usb)
2) MagSafe charger wired behind pccm to newly spliced front usb (previously rear usb)
3) Front usb (previously CarPlay) for passenger charging.
note: I’m not sure about the PCCM power rating for the (former rear) usb to support two phones charging at the same time - use your own judgement.

Ordered another camera and PCCM detected it immediately (acc position 2, taillight plugged in). This confirms that on some PCCM versions, even with 12v applied to PIN6, it’ll read “no camera detected” if the camera is unplugged OR the camera is bad. Certain posts indicate the pccm would still shift to reverse view and display a “no camera”‘orange icon - but this was not the case.
I appreciate the diy thread here and the help provided by others with my original question.

Below seems to be the fix. Plug your old black antenna connector into the top antenna position on the back of the new PCCM+ and do NOT use the antenna amp bypass. Leave that connected the way the factory did.

- keep original connectors plugged in under carpet
- plug black radio connector directly into top radio connection on PCCM

AHD vs HD Camera
Do you know what change function the cut wire provided? My camera is similar with wire options and default is HD. There is an option to cut the wire for Analog HD (AHD). Waiting on parts, but would be good to know what PCCM+ camera input plays nice with.

Resolution support is 720p per my understanding. My camera didn’t have any option wires. Would suggest testing camera on TV first, and then go to car after confirming it works. Don’t cut the wires until you need to change something.

Thanks for this great tutorial!
Got mine installed in a '08 cab and everything (no cam) works including the microphone (with the updated settings).
Pretty straight forward. I'm still amazed that Porsche does not include any instructions and I'm wondering what instructions the dealerships get.
I'm reading that they charge $1,500 to $2,000 for the install alone, which I find hard to believe.
The thing that took relatively long was to get the optical connector out of the Nav DVD to install the loop. What a pain.
Would have helped to get the radio out first and take a look at the connector again. For some reason I though it was a great idea to do the DVD and the FM loop first.
For anyone who struggles with the DVD loop: I removed the entire plastic cover, which still doesn't add much space. Connector is on the passenger of the DVD drive. Push the clip on the passenger side of the connector in with your left hand and carefully pull on the optical fibers with you right hand to slide the connector out. No line of sight. You have to do this blindly. Very little space for big hands.

Just purchased the PCCM+ for our 987.1 and having it installed next month. We had the CDR/No DVD. Reading through the thread it looks like the aftermarket backup camera should work.
Does an aftermarket sub-woofer work and how should it be connected?
Thank you.

I got my PCCM+ installed but I also did the .2 taillight and bumper upgrade on my .1. I also ripped the interior to get the trigger and video wire from the PCCM+ all the way to the back. I put in a new wiring harness between the OEM socket for the driver's side tailight. I pulled power from the reverse light wire. The reverse camera worked when we had everything out but when we put things back together it didn't work. The camera wouldn't activate at all. And even then the reverse light would come on for a second then shut down. The parking sensors wouldn't work anymore either. I suspect that the camera is drawing too much power causing the system to shut down the power to the reverse light. I took the harness wiring out and plugged the socket directly into the taillight, the reverse light and PDC works fine but whenever I plugged the camera in, it stopped working. Any idea where I can draw power from instead of the reverse light?

Pavegeno928 Yes. This may be the system you have in your car. (Image courtesy of this thread): https://www.planet-9.com/threads/ask...nstall.233725/
In the frunk, pull back the panel to expose the ASK amp if connected to confirm this is the basic diagram for your system. If so, I used the rear speaker output directly off the head unit (soon to be your PCCM+) and connected it to a powered subwoofer high input. I did not want to hack factory wires, so I bought this connector and spliced into the wires on it on the speaker portion (you can leave the other side alone, unpin it, or just grind/cut it off--I just unpinned it).
You will also need to wire power and a controller to the subwoofer that comes with most kits and figure out where to put it. I put mine under the passenger mat as far forward as I could. It did not limit seating too much and I can simply unplug it if I do not want it in the circuit or I have a tall passenger.
