Default 997 upcoming prices

What does everyone think the 997 market will be like next year? The overall car market is definitely softening. The offer I made for my GTS last month took into consideration the expected ongoing reduction in prices. I took a risk instead of waiting it out because I like the rare color combo in 6MT.

I’m wondering how the base, S, 4S and GTS will hold up. The other factor is that 997s are highly desirable because it is the last mechanical 911 and prices are still within reach.

I can confidently predict that, come this time next year, my 997 will still be more valuable to me to enjoy driving every day than any reasonable price the market might bear.

997 C4, S and C4S Market will tumble slightly but Manual Transmission cars will stay a lot stronger than Automatic.

There's a Youtube guy who seems dedicated to discussing exactly market values and trends. I think he goes by the name of Four Wheel Trader and has quite a few videos that are like stock trading 101 but with cars.

My thoughts are that desirable builds (manual .2, coupe, more options) will still be desirable.

I doubt you'll find anyone here or elsewhere who can confidently predict car prices a year from now. Too many variables and unpredictable events. Anyone who still say they can would also be able to predict where the stock market and the housing market will be a year out and would not be spending time on forums like this but relaxing on his/her private island somewhere sipping their choice of drinks.

My crystal ball is broken, but my Magic 8 Ball said, "Reply hazy, try again".
Just bustin' your stones...Congrats on your GTS!

The fundamentals of the 997 market will continue to hold true:
  • Rarity is important. Lower production = scarcity = higher price
  • 997.2 is more valuable than 997.1
  • Manual transmission is more valuable than PDK
  • Special/rare color combos more valuable than mundane colors
  • Unique or desirable options add value
  • Low miles more valuable than higher miles
  • Number of owners, service history, DME reports...yada, yada...same anticipated impact on value.
Even if we dip further into a recession, a rare car in desirable spec is going to remain a rare car in desirable spec. There are countless stories on this forum of people shopping for just the right 911 for a year or more before finding it. Someone seeking a rare gem will likely be willing to 'splurge' for the right car, just like you did for your GTS. If they don't, the next guy to come along will grab it. FOMO (Fear Of Missing Out) is a powerful thing, and completely relevant in the 997 market this year, next year, and for the foreseeable future. 911 sales history has proven over time that what you thought was a high price in the past looks like a good deal today, and an incredible bargain tomorrow.

And also important these days with 997 cars---> No Bore Scoring a plus, no recent over revs in upper ranges, no issues with Cam Deviation as well as clean/dry California/Arizona cars add additional value.

i wonder how the 4.0 and up rebuilds will sell, im sure the money spent wont be recouped, but it will be interesting to see where they fall in the market. tho after watching the market for the past 3+ years i dont really recall any being up for sale,

And…..think about it, the older the series gets the more it’s value increases over time..just look at the sc’s and Carreras of the late 70’s and 1980’s
I had 3..great fun cars, but better car and value in a 997

Keep it clean, inside and out.
Replace worn parts.
Keep it OEM as much as possible...EXCEPT when adding a desirable part with intrinsic value - i.e. ask yourself, if I sold that part alone, would people want it? E.g. Fuchs wheels? Yes.
Upgrade with even better OEM parts - yes, e.g. paddle sports steering wheels over the ones with the thumb forward/backwards shifters.
Replace the oil more often than you would with any other car...like once a year AT LEAST.
Don't cheap out on ANY mechanical maintenance. Get it done at Porsche. It will show on your service record which is worth gold in terms of resale value.
At least drive it enough that the parts are still nicely greased up but don't rev the **** out of it!

FWIW a manual 2003 53k miles 4S 996 Coupe recently sold on BAT for about $77K (including 5% auction fee, but no tax) with a FSI 4.0 . Check it out on BAT ; I 'm sure the the cool driving video was a plus....

Prices will drop further IMO unless you have a clean Manual with less than 20,000 miles on the car!! I see high priced C2S, C4S, and GTS sitting in the market and not selling as they are asking way too much in this slow down market right now!!
