Yes, it is possible to have an M96.05 with the larger, non-serviceable IMS bearing. In your case, the engine is a replacement (has AT in the serial number), so I would expect it to have the larger 06-08 bearing.

If you would like to read up on this, we've made a page specific to these models and what we recommend doing:

Also here is a helpful IMS engine# guide for the 3.6L & 3.8L 997 engines:

Engine#'s for IMS Bearing size:
The smaller IMS Bearing in the 3.8L motors are in motors up to M97/01 68509790 ---> Engine#'s from M97/01 68509791 forward have the larger revised more robust IMS Bearing.
For 3.6L motors, if the engine# s M96/05 69507476 and higher it has the larger more robust IMS bearing.

I think that can -- if at all -- only be answered by Porsche. I assume that it is not necessarily a brand new engine with AT designation, because modifications (IMS!) are always incorporated. In no case I would worry just because there are the letters AT, it's the same crap as without AT

Since the small ims bearing was only used for the early 05 cars, the odds of receiving a replacement AT engine while Porsche was still using the small bearing are extremely low. Unless someone bought one of the first 997s and the engine failed almost immediately it should have the larger later bearing in it.

^^Many 2006 cars were built in 2005 and a small % of these 2006 cars have the smaller IMS Bearing and reason engine# chart is helpful.
I was surprised I came upon a couple of 2006's that had the smaller Bearing while shopping a few years ago.
