Default Cracked Headlights - Fix, Replace or "upgrade"?

Hi everyone -

Both headlight lenses are cracked on my 997.1 Carrera S - curious what the forum thinks is the best option for fixing:

Rennlights offers a repair service for ~$1000

FCP Euro sells OEM replacements for ~ $1500 total (confirming P/N 99763116324 is correct?)

Spyder has an "upgrade" to LED projector lights that have some mixed reviews ~$2000. I would disable the LED DRL ring.

some eye candy for reference:

my vote is for new oem units. i wouldn't want to have the lights out for service (no telling how long that is, but however long it is, the car is unusable). led projectors with mixed reviews seems like something to avoid. /my 2 cents

I went through this and ended up going through Lightwerkz for huge new output but OEM look.

This is a good thread to read.

Are you sure you have halogen lights? The Xenon/HID versions are about 1400 a piece so what you have linked from FCP isn't the correct PN. I'd personally replace the lenses yourself with a new plastic lenses and then upgrade the projector lenses to clear while you're in there to get the same performance like what misterdega posted.

Mind linking me to the correct P/N? I have xenon projectors and halogen high beams. I think there were 3 options of headlights for the 997.

Do you have to bake the headlights to remove the old lenses?

I'm fairly certain that is what lightwerkz did. Hit them up and talk to Caesar. He was great. I think all the parts and labor with updating the internals was about 1k. ( I had to buy the lenses separately and provide it to them)

can anyone confirm part number for one of the headlamps? I’m finding:Part#: 997-631-164-24

It says halogen though in description and i have xenon. but not the dual projector xenon’s. I don’t see all 3 options of headlights on suncoast or pelican so would love some confidence.

I'd vote the following. I retrofitted my 997.2 headlights and they have been going strong for over 7 months. That was linked above. Car sees track time and miles. Headlights haven't skipped a beat.
  1. Retrofit the projectors and replace with fresh lens(If budget allows)
  2. Replace lens
  3. Aftermarket solution
Some other interesting thoughts.
  • blacking out interior
  • Upgrading to the 997.2 Dynamic headlights(this is possible on 997.1 just no left/right dynamic ability)
  • Speedster Lens(blacked out ring)
eBay is a great place to find used headlights for a cheap discount. If you are retrofitting them anyways it wont matter they are used.

Have a look through PET. 997.1 only have two options; halogen and litronic (xenon). 997.2 added the dynamic cornering light option (what you refer to as dual projector).

Litronic L: 99763115723
Litronic R: 99763115823

If those don't work, you can try searching for xenon or litronic 997 headlights. You'll find the right one as there's not many options.

This is where i get confused - as this is the image that comes up when i use that part number and these are not the lights i have:

i don’t have the second projector, it’s a halogen high beam (see image of my car in original post)

I'm not sure where you're seeing a second projector. The lights in your last post and the lights on the car you've posted are the same.

For reference, these are the lights with two projectors. AKA the dynamic cornering headlights

edit: Just to add on some more info. The halogen and litronic headlights are visually identical except for the guts. The halogen headlights still use a projector lens but they're designed for halogen bulbs instead of xenon. Litronic/Xenon ones are bi-xenon with a halogen highbeam fill.

Bumping up this old thread with another question - does anyone know if the ballast and bulb from the litronic 997.1 will transfer to a 997.2?

Potentially upgrading to 997.2 bi-xenon lights and curious if I can buy just housings and transfer over the rest.

In understand only up/down adjustment will work.

yes - bulbs + ballasts can transfer right over based on previous .1 owners who have done this - it is documented over the years on various threads.

EDIT - litronics are these the Xenon headlamps or the base .1 headlamps?

the light output will be much improved as the .2 dual projector headlamps use a different lens.

please let us know how it goes. you will have to manually level the lights once (via allen key). i have the headlamps but i have yet to do this myself on my car.... yet.
