Default Porsche Dealer OEM IMS bearing

Just curious if the new IMS shaft ( sold by the dealer ) that comes with the bearing is an upgrade over the original bearing that had "problems"? This maybe a stupid question! The Porsche part# 996.105.901.07. Any details about how much better?

Person to ask would be Jake Raby (Flat 6 Innovations). However IMS issues only effect a very small % of 997 cars. The early 2005 Builds.
...And these days most of the early 2005 cars have lots of miles on them so their IMS Bearings either grenaded and engines replaced, IMS survived and are stout or IMS Bearings have already been replaced.
IMS in 997 seems to be a mute topic these days compared to Bore Scoring.

This should not be in the list. A small single row IMS bearing in these cars will fail at any time or mileage. Just because one made it say 80,000 or 120,000 miles doesn't mean it's not going to grenade in the next 1,000 miles. Any 997 car with a single small IMS bearing should have it replaced regardless of mileage - period.

The newest IMS bearings sold by Porsche pre-pressed into the IMS Shaft are the 6305 bearings.

Cliff notes version from Charles Navarro of LN Engineering:

The factory single row 6204 bearing a dynamic load capacity of 2900# with thrust max load rating of 1450#.

The dual row 4204/5204 has a dynamic load capacity of 4000# w/ thrust of 2000#.

The later non-serviceable 6305 bearing has a dynamic load capacity of 4,600# w/ thrust of 2300#.

Great info that I was looking for! I had my engine rebuilt a couple of years ago and they installed the new shaft with the 6305 bearing. The Porsche service manager said " shaft with the bearing is one and done". I took that to mean no more worry about a failure.
