I’d think your two blown engines would have blown even if you added Ceratec or MoS2 but that’s just me. I mean, why add anything solid (even if a lubricant) to an engine that is supposed to have liquid in it? Maybe, they might have blown earlier. 😆
FYI if you don't already know the history, M1 0w-40 used to be a great oil. I also ran it many years ago back when it was a good oil.

The beginning of the end was not long after the Exxon merger....and, of course, the famous M1 v Castrol lawsuit regarding the use of non-synthetic group 1-3 base stocks (not group 4 PAOs and 5 esters) and still being able to market it as "full synthetic". It's not the same but it was ruled that it was ok to market it that way.

IMHO for several reasons it's not really apples-to-apples to compare a oil today to what it was ~20 years ago. Environmental regulations alone have changed the composition of oils significantly over this period of time.

Yes, but those things happened in 1999, and my car was in my possession from 2002 onwards. Same thing with MarcW’s 2002 Boxster that he bought new and drove for over 250K miles.

I see mentions of DT40, is DI40 the best bet for the 997.2 DFI cars?

IMHO Yes. If you go with a Driven oil, DI40 is for the 997.2.

DT40 is for 997.1 port injected engines
DI40 is for 997.2 direct injected engines

Yes, as silver_tt says, but I actually use DT40 in my DFI Cayenne Turbo S so I don't have to stock another type of Driven oil and the UOA reports are stellar, so I think you can really use either one.

Excess moly leads to valve deposits.

It has been shown that adding MoDTC to oil can cause coking/deposits in turbochargers (very high temps and pressures) as they act as a decomposition catalyst. However if the oil chemistry is right you don't need to worry about this. I have been running DI40 for over 50K miles in a turbocharged engine -- it was designed for it. Even running XP9 which has a ton of moly, zero issues.

I'll take fairly easily cleanable valve deposits over scored or worn internal engine components all day.

Like Bruce I plan to alternate ceratec and Mos2 on my C2S 997.1.
same here. I used Ceratec for the first time last oil change (performed last February). I’ll do oil analysis (blackstone) every oil change. So far everything is good, like to see next oil change oil results just for info. I’ll alternate between the two additives. BTW, seems that the oil dilemma is like discussing “taste and colors”… and eternal theme of discussion, never ending
