I converted it back to a street car and bought a 996 GT3 prepared track car. The 997 is a great car but the engine is not for anything other than just normal driving and the occasional flog.
That is good point you noted and good to know because I am sure a lot of us that owns or want a 997 will probably want to track their car one day!!! That really sucks to hear and this is really making me get a 991.2 instead now.

IMO from the several 997's I have Bore Scope Inspected, the best advice is to buy a warm climate 997 and have it BS Inspected as part of complete PPI including DME Over-Rev readings/etc..
The 2 997S cars I Bore Scope Inspected last year as part of PPI failed miserably - Both from Canada and driven in winter. Lots of oxidation on undersides, Coil Heat Shields rusted with holes as well as bad corrosion on suspension parts. Ugly
If on West coast, stick to California/Arizona/Texas/OR/WA(None-Flood)cars.
If on east coast I'd be looking in Carolina's and careful about cars from Florida. I've seen some fugly oxidation on Florida cars that lived by the ocean. Nasty stuff

There's nothing like a nice clean California car.

I always make it a rule to stay far away from Porsche's that have been tracked. A designated track car yes.
I've seen some serious nasty-assed driving on the track including beating on transmission, mis-shifts, hard braking, screwed up wheels. Real jack *** stuff.
Just got to face the fact that track cars get beat on and better to buy a non-tracked car owned by caring/loving owner.

Definitely but it will be tough to find a 997 that hasn't been tracked yet for a 15 plus year car.

I think it's a lot easier to find a 997 that hasn't been tracked than one that has. Let's be honest, most 911 buyers are not tracking their cars...a large majority barely drive them "spiritedly".
