Default Thank you Mr Blue/Green 997 with Rear Aerokit

On Sunday April 24th I was finishing out my first big road trip in my new to me 2016 991.1 C2 driving on I-93S near Ashland NH. A panic attack came on from a lot of things hitting me at once. I decided to get off the highway for safety reasons and took exit 24 where I pulled over to regain my composure. A few minutes later a greenish blue 997 Carrera with a beige interior and a rear aero kit started to come along the road and appeared to be going the way of the highway entrance. I was feeling a little better and decided to get back on the highway to finish my drive home. The 997 was pulling hard on the curved onramp and so I decided that my tires were hot enough I’d follow right along with him. Once we got on the highway he took off, and so I decided I’d follow suit. He’d pass a car, and then I’d follow. This happened for a few miles, and he noticed and decided to slow down a bit. When I pulled alongside to pass, he turned and with a gigantic smile he rather enthusiastically waved hello. Now it was my turn to lead. I’d pull, and he’d follow. I’d pass, and then he’d pass. This went on for about 40 miles until we got to the exit with I-89N where his exit was. He then flashed his high beams to say goodbye and was gone.

This year has been tough. I know most have had it worse than I have, but for me I really struggled. It started great with dating a very close friend of 3 years who finally became single. Things really hit it off and we really saw ourselves having a family one day. Then I lost my job at the end of Feb, and 7 days later she broke up with me. A close friend of our family died in a tragic car accident a few weeks later. End of March comes along, and I went to the Porsche Track Experience in Alabama I signed up for months before and I sat in a Porsche for the very first time ever. The 911 has been my dream car for years and this experience absolutely blew my mind and is some of the best money I’ve ever spent. Two weeks later I was driving home from my new job and I asked myself why I’m waiting to live my dream. I changed course and went straight to Porsche of Boston where I traded in the Jeep I spent a year building and my beloved WRX and made my dream a reality.

I’m telling this story in hopes that the person who I drove with reads it. I wanted to tell you that the simple act of joining a total stranger for a drive based on a mutual love for these incredible machines brought some much needed joy to someone’s life. I know most on this forum would probably have done the same but I thought I’d let you know how much of a difference that a simple act like this can make in someone’s life.

So from the bottom of my heart, thank you Mr. Blue-Green 997 with the beige interior and rear aerokit. You are a special person and made my first ever road trip in my 991 very special.

This is me in case you remember

Thanks for sharing this great story. It's relatable on several levels and is a very nice reminder of how these silly cars, and the sillier people who drive them can be part of those "small" moments that are the true fabric of happiness.

I'm sure you'll have fun enjoying your car and perhaps finding a moment to return the favor.

Cheers!

That's awesome. Great start to my Saturday. Congrats on your 911, for turning things around, and also seeing your friends true colors early on in your dating relationship.

Yes, super relatable. 2019 - now has been REALLY challenging and little things like that make a HUGE difference. I hope you continue to enjoy your new Porsche!!

I think I must have something in my eye, but this is the best thing I've read on Rennlist. Thank you for letting us in on it and I hope Mr. B/G sees it too.

You've started a great Summer, congrats on a fine car. There's usually a real connection between fellow Porsche owners out and about. Hey, maybe a cross-country trip to next year's Rennsport Reunion is doable?!

That’s an awesome story. Now go get yourself a hot date and pull up in that beautiful 911 in front of your friend who left you after you lost your job and wink at her while driving by. 😆

Thank you all for the supportive responses! Definitely gave me a boost and I'm definitely enjoying the heck out of my 911. Hopefully I'll see you all out on the road someday!
