Seasucker (or other roof racks) for 997.2 Targa
Hi guys,
I want to ask: do you have experiences with putting roof racks on the Targa? Unlike standard coupes, Targa does not have any the roof "latches/mounts", so alternatives are necessary. Now, I saw the seasuckers on some Targas (even here on this forum), but I am not sure if it is a reliable solution for eternity or the pictures were just some one-time proof of concept and nobody knows how safe it is - with respect to the Targa glass hatch etc..:
This applies for bikes, skiis or just a standard roof box.

This mounting position is horrid, blocking rear view visibility, increases wind drag. I am surprised the boards didn’t fly away. The load should be as parallel to the ground as possible

True, the boards could be loaded in differently to reduce drag
However, on a 911, wind drag is relatively low at this part of the car . . .

I was curious about the seasucker system, however reading reviews scared me off, although most complaints were about it marring paint, bikes flipping forward ect. but it would block a major part of your rear vision as well.

Seasucker racks work very well!
You must mount on clean paint to avoid marring. Excellent suction on glass so the rear mount is secure - but folks forget to strap down the wheel.
Minimal vision blockage, bikes are skinny.
Bonus: the further back a rack is on a 911, the better the aero dynamics
The obvious negative is the ease it can be stolen
