Default Should I keep or sell?

I’ve owned a 997.2 for close to two years now and absolutely love it. It’s my first Porsche and I’ve always dreamt of collecting. I am ready to purchase a 991 GT3 and wanted to hear others opinions based on their experiences. I currently own a 997.2 C2s Carrera White/Terracotta with all options and plenty of tasteful modifications. I have roughly 41k miles on the car and use it as an enjoyable evening drive or weekend car. The way I see it currently,

Pros:
-I would own two different levels of 911 from two different generations.

-Starting a collection of 911’s that I’ve always dreamt of owning.

Cons:
-Driving a GT3 could potentially make me lose interest in a C2S after a while.

-Having both as weekend cars, choosing between the two every time could be challenging! Haha

Of course there are more than these, but I figured I’d start the list and see if any other owners cared to chime in. It of course is enticing to sell mine based off of the current market conditions, however I feel that there could definitely be a level of immediate regret! Thank you for any opinions you care to share.

I own both a 996.2 4s and a 997.2 4s and decided to keep both. You will be amazed how jumping back and forth between the 2 makes each drive even more enjoyable. One is a manual, one a PDK, but switching back and forth enhances the uniqueness each offers. Worse case is one really speaks to you and you then decide to sell the other. We should all have such problems. Best of luck, what a gorgeous white car!

Or if you really want to collect, sell the C2S and use that money to get an older air cooled. That way you’ll have a real choice to make because they are so different from one another, and each offers awesome driving experience. I’d love to see what the white over terra cotta would do on BaT. It would really do well I think, because those colors really work together. Mine was slate gray over terra cotta. That is the best interior color I think.

I planned on selling my 997.1 C2S when I bought my 997.2 GT3. I kept it and am happy with that decision. The GT3 is a beast but sometimes the C2S is more fun to drive.
It's more pliable and forgiving on less than perfect mountain roads and in the city. It also works better for the wife. More comfortable and heated seats instead of a rough ride in sport buckets.
It's also nice to drive with tunes. I can't hear anything but Mezger above 5k RMP.

Controversial opinion, unless tracking i'd not buy the GT3 and just enjoy the 911 you have. You're talking serious money for 10% more experience imho.

I'm actually in this camp too... I currently own a 997.2 C2S, I went and drove a .2 GT3 as a potential add/replacement. After driving the C2S to the dealer, driving the GT3 for 25 minutes, and driving home in the C2S I stopped shopping for GT3s. It just wasn't 100k better. I might have felt differently if that GT3 had been red, but because it was the same interior and exterior colors the usable differences were not enough to justify for a street focused car.

On the other hand, I have a vintage truck in the garage and the driving experience is SO DIFFERENT that it's really fun to switch back and forth depending on the plan/mood. I'd also vote for going for an older car! Plus, it's way more fun to drive a slow car fast than a fast car slow...

Of course - it all depends on your preferences, goals of the collection, and budget. The GT3s are pretty spectacular, if I was focused on collecting just Porsches I'd keep them both

The only way I would be able to decide is to keep both for a while. Also, many have come back to older cars after trying newer ones and they always have trouble finding another older car as good as the one they sold. Your 997 is going to continue appreciating so if you sell it now or in a year or 20 years you aren’t going to lose money.

If you're gonna run another toy car i'd try something totally different, like say a GT350. A big, grippy FR V8 instead of another light nosed, RR flat 6.

That's a fantastic looking C2S! I'd keep it for sure, and just add the 991 GT3 as its garage mate.

I just went thru that decision after testing driving both a GT350R and an 08 Carrera S. The Ford made a nice noise and good power, but was bigger than I prefer and visibility wasn't the greatest as expected with newer cars. The Recaro seats were very nice, but the rest of the interior had the typical Ford build quality.

Very clean build. Have you driven the 991 GT3? It seems as though they have dropped in price since the 992 GT3. I second Ed's comment, if you want a collector, go Air Cooled 911. I'm still looking for an old '73 to restore but second would be a 964 or 993 in white.

Yeah but flat plane crank V8 and it looks like it eats small children for fun.

100% agree. While the GT3 is a different beast to your C2S, it's still a rear engine 2 seat sports car. If your C2S is a stick and on stock (or similarly forgiving) suspension, I could almost see the point, i.e. 6MT stock-like 911 vs. ball jointed PDK GT3.

But I'd vote to get something that offers a truly different driving experience than a 911, whichever 911 you decide to keep.

If you're looking to start a specific collection, then by all means buy as many 911s as your heart (and wallet) desires. I'm the kind of guy who, if he had 30 cars, would want 30 different driving experiences (front engine, mid-engine, rear engine, manual, PDK, German, Italian, Japanese, American, etc.).

Recently seen on the internets was that owner who had ~20 different E92 M3s, all in different colors, and I just don't get it. I love the E92, I had one and miss it, but one nice example is enough, lol. So many other driving experiences out there to try.

Never really been a car guy, but ever since I started driving my 911s I've often wondered what other car would thrill me enough to make me consider switching. Maybe I should go test drive some older BMWs.
