I have a 2011 Carrera S and want to keep it in tip-top shape. What are the groups thoughts on using Liqui Moly DIJectron Fuel Injector Cleaner every 3 fill-ups or so? I have a 1997 Carrera S that I have used Liqui Moly Jectron combined with Liqui Moly Valve Clean for years and the engine purrs like a kitten at idle and roars like a lion when I get on the gas.
My preference is to use Top Tier fuel at the correct octane, oil changes with quality oil and filters, and tune-ups with factory spec'd plugs and filters.
Some will also add a bottle of their favorite fuel system cleaner (Techron seems to be favored) to the last tank of gas before an oil change.

This, but I use Chevron 95% of the time (for their Techron) instead of Techron before an oil change. I switch to Shell occasionally just to augment (compliment) Chevron's additive package.
A40 approved oil changes with OEM filter every 5K miles. I use A40 because with a .2 car I'm more worried about my catalytic converters than .1 car related concerns. If you own a .1 car your emphasis may be different. Note: Please don't let this turn into an oil thread.
Plugs every 40K. Still on original coils (and water pump, HPFP, etc.).
Air filters per schedule.
Idle is absolutely smooth and the car runs great ... 2010 C4S PDK with 145K miles.
Thank you for the replies. Question for CAVU on adding in the fuel system cleaner before an oil change. Does it really matter when the fuel cleaner is added?
She runs fine now. I am OCD on changing oil every 12 months (1500-2000 miles) with Motul Synthetic, fluids, premium gas (Chevron and Shell) with clear gas 93 mixed in every 3rd tank and take it up to 6k RPM every now and then, when warmed oil is warmed up, take it to 6K, I was checking if anyone had any experience or history with DIJectron on the 997.2 engine. Worth it, overkill, waste of money?
I think I tried it once.... Like Wayne I like Techron (no rational reason), I try and do a concentrated load in my fuel right before an oil change... I have a believe that is dilutes oil... but again, I don't really know for sure. So.... what have I learned? That I can't tell at all. It never helped or changed performance including gas mileage. Did I waste my money? Maybe... but I will continue to do it when I remember.

Waste of money. Never used that product. Did use Techron a long time ago

I used to do that up until the early 90's (1975 and 1981 Volvo and 1980 450SEL). I soon started adding it at the last tank of gas before an oil change because I noticed a change in the oils color after adding Techron. Probably the carrier fluid and some of the active ingredients that are vaporized during combustions go past the rings as blow by and condenses into the oil. That is why I chose to do it before the oil change.
In 1991, I started using Chevron gas because of its Techron. All of my cars then were CIS. Between 1983-1990 I had used my Bosch manual pump injector sprayer to clean those injectors and get their spray patterns back to normal, if possible. After I started using the Chevron fuel, I did not have to pull one injector. Those cars are long gone and am I still on a roll. I stick with Top Tier and do not use any additives other than the package that is in fuel. In broad terms, Top Tier has a more effective detergent package, usually attained by adding more of it to the gasoline, than the EPA mandated minimum detergent package that all gasoline sold in the U.S. must have.
I will keep this strategy because of my experiences and not much if any true analysis.
I use BG 44K which is the commercial version of Techron. Chevron has a patent on a polyetheramine. Chevron markets it as Techron to consumers and licenses BG Products for the commercial market. BG44K uses the same polyetheramine but in higher concentrations. It's pricey at about $25 a can and probably overkill. Apparently BG 44K is popular for use in commercial and industrial engines. For what it's worth, my dealer or recommends a BG 44K treatment every 40,000 miles.
Gumout,Redline, and CRC also use a type of polyetheramine (PEA). Liquid Molly had jumped on the PEA bandwagon with DI Jectron. It should work the same but hard to judge if it is any better.
Stabil 360 in every tank to keep the fuel from going stale as it often takes me a couple months to get through a full tank of gas, and Techron or SeaFoam in the last tank before the oil change.
Guess depending on how much you drive but every 3 fill ups, seems a little excessive. My schedule is somewhat a seasonal additive, so 3-4 times a year ! Doesn't seem to do much but guess it doesn't hurt to do it either.
I used to use G17 additive from VW/Audi, it's good stuff specifically formulated to help clean DI injectors. I've used it in my lawnmower and made a huge difference in overall sound and start up.
As many mentioned, 5k mile/7.5k km 2x a year oil changes are best preventative measure for 997s !
I have a 997.1, so this probably doesn’t apply, but what is the logic behind adding an additive right before the last oil change?
With an additive like Techron that is supposed to dissolve carbon you want anything it dissolves either captured in the filter media or suspended in solution so it can be flushed out with the oil change.

Gotcha!! I was looking at it from a UOA perspective. So is this something just recommended for DFI engines? I assume “no”, because you have 997.1. And many others.
