997.1 first repair in 3 years. Cost $0.
Between a boat that needs lots of work and a 997 that needs none, ive been awol from the forum for a while. So i've been secretly hoping for something to break on the 997 to get my hands dirty again. Well, it finally happened. After 3 years with not a single issue my radiator fan went out. I started noticing the driver-side fan running abnormally high, particularly at stop signs and parking lots. I investigated further and found the passenger fan wasn't running. The control system engineers at Porsche were apparently smart enough to compensate for a non-op fan by running the other at double speed... but not smart enough to trigger a simple CEL for it. Go figure.
Most of the posts on the issues reported it wasn't the motor, but rocks or other junk lodged in the fan. I didn't think I would be that lucky since I have my intake covered with mesh and I could freely spin the fan from the backside. But once I took the fan cowling off I saw a piece of electrical tape hanging by the fan blades. (The same electrical tape I used a couple years back to secure the front bumper wiring harness while installing the 3rd radiator. Ouch!)
Removed the tape and it fired right back up. It must have an extremely sensitive cutoff switch.
So if anyone has a similar issue, spend 30 mins investigating before throwing parts at it.

I'd bet ClimaRepair happy you are back
Hope all is well.
BTW posted a month ago found nice TEMP-FAN switches on Amazon for $36 shipped. They look great.
Some mentioned FAN image on switch looks a little bit smaller but I really don't notice or mind this small difference.
Hope all is well.

Too funny! Is that guy still in business? The switches I got from MACarbon have been perfect for 4+ years. Just saw that new post on headlight lens replacement. That may be my next project. Hopefully less dramatic than climate control switches...
Hope all is well.

[QUOTE=TheBruce;17909306]I just got the center radiator installed, and after a few missteps I'm now very happy.
FWIW, I added an 18 by 1.5 by 1/8 inch arched aluminum bar to the top of the cowl (tie strap through holes near the middle) to shape the cowl to the bumper groove. Then I used some wire to hang it from the bumper so the height was right. Then the bumper slid right on.
Home Depot gutter guard.
B16s with top mounts (Tarret? Elephant? Other?) are next. You'll be waiting a long time to watch me do my headlights first!!!!!
