About to swap a Cayman for a 997 Manual - Bad Idea?
#46
I had a 987 (06S) and I just picked up a 07C4S. To me as a car the C4S is way nicer. Way more power, not quite as crisp on cornering as the S but I'm not an F1 racer and want a commuter fun weekend car. This car fits the bill MUCH better for me, more power on demand to have fun with and the potential to put a small midget in the backseat if need be. Downside is that my 987 had a new stereo in it and this car has the 2007 navi/head unit which is clunky and archaic comparably but that will likely change.

Having the rebuild is a great plus. If you follow the 911uk forum, everyone swears by the Hartech rebuild, but a good rebuild is a good rebuild in my mind. The dealer Portiacraft where I bought my one offers a fixed price £3500 rebuild for scored bores (for cars they have sold) - dedicated Porsche indy and been in business for years.
With any purchase you have to be happy with it, no second thoughts. Good luck with it.

I hope to do some track days and once I have driven a few of those, there may be some mechanical upgrades to consider. I know so many people on here play with their exhausts, but I love the tone of my Sports package exhaust - but hey, never say never!

I already have a GT3 front bumper and smile vent. I want a spoiler but not the GT3. The Turbo spoiler is nice but I'm leaning towards a ducktail following the Sport Classic route. I also like the GT3 rear bumper. I'm putting on 7/15 spacers and as my car is Basalt Black, I'm looking for an all-black theme, so I have my eyes on ****s black rims.

What's the sound like? I always found my Cayman to have a beautiful tone and sound when revving over 6000RPM but I always did think it was kind of quiet in general. My technician advised me to get a sports cat and muffler deletes to solve it but I couldn't justify the price.

Mines all black as well! I forgot a mod, black badges and black Porsche letters.

I agree with you. Those aftermarket LED tail lights and front fog light units to me look, well, aftermarket and like Christmas lighting. I don’t think they make the car look more modern or any better when put on (in fact, I think they look worse) but it’s their car so whatever floats their boat I guess. There’s no shame in owning an older 911 in my view…why not embrace it and enjoy it the way it was provided from Porsche? I have a couple of photos of mine from my IG that Porsche themselves posted on their website (one of them below), and I have the original tail lights. Doubt they would’ve posted it if I had those crazy LEDs on, not that it matters to those who like em, but I don’t think they make the car look better. I also don’t think .1 interior looks so bad. To me, those aftermarket NAV units that folks put in actually look very aftermarket, so I kept my original in as well. I even ended up buying extra sets of each item on the entire center stack (PCM/radio, HVAC unit, sport spoiler button, etc, just to have good spares in case my current ones go bad or if the finish wears off one day). I guess I’m old fashioned or just old. LOL.

The 4S I'm getting includes the PSE. Do you have a 991.1 or .2?

Interestingly I was at a recent PCGB meet and there was a near new GT3 RS. It looked incredible in every way but when he started it and revved, it was a tad disappointing! My 997 wouldn't even be a decent deposit on that car
PS
I wouldn't say no to a GT3 RS at the right price...

2006 997.1 It's a burbling growl! Although you would need a line up of models with different mods to hear the differences. I love driving with the windows down to fully hear it, a roar but it doesn't scream at me - everyone to their own.
