Then again, the Ferrari normal guy can do it himself.
You'd think he'd have a lift or something. If you're going to buy a 458 and DIY, why mess around with the quickjack?

Good point…..but it might not be just about money. I wanted a two post or four post lift and was ready to buy. But the ceiling clearance in my garage was about three inches too short. So stuck with either Quick Jack or scissor jack. My car has Sports PASM so it will not clear a scissor jack unless I build/buy ramps. So……Quick Jack was my only option even though I can afford and wanted a full lift. QJ still better than floor jack and jack stands. But my next garage will have a full lift for sure.

I get that and changing the house you're in is difficult sometimes but he also can't seem to catch all his oil so I'm thinking something was left on the table w/r/t the lifting options. Heck, a MaxJax might be an option too but might not have solved much in his case because of the underbody panel issue.

I am rehashing this older thread with an offer to help anyone and try to build the local community here. We can all get everything needed for on oil change from FCP Euro for $150. BTW, this is a one time fee as you can return the oil for new oil after use. I have a heated and cooled, indoor garage with a 4 post lift. If anyone needs help with an oil change or other simple repairs, please PM me. Dan, Malvern, PA.

Besides tires/alignments and state inspections, my p-cars don't go to a mechanic.

$150? What gold-laced oil do you buy that costs that much?

Driven DI40 and DT40 is $12-$14 a quart plus a $15 filter and with my 2L deep sump my 997 takes exactly 10 quarts - that's about $150 per oil change doing it myself.

Not saying I went the cheapest route by any means, but my most recent DIY oil change cost me $151 in materials from Amazon...

1x 5L of Motul 8100 X-Cess Gen2 5W-40 ($52) -
Amazon Amazon

3x 1L Motul 8100 X-Cess Gen2 5W-40 (3x $19) -
Amazon Amazon

1x Filter ($26) -
Amazon Amazon

1x Filter housing O-ring ($11) -
Amazon Amazon

1x Crush ring ($5) - Yah, I know... -
Amazon Amazon

Karl.

Not to bag on anyone else as I'm a tightwad and go out of my way looking for deals and just bought the same stuff as Karl.

Motul X-cess 5 L @ $45 each (I buy two and save leftover for next change)
Amazon Amazon

Mann OEM filter for 997.2 @$15 (comes with o-ring)
Amazon Amazon

Generic aluminum crush washers <$1 each (bought a pack of ten pretty sure it was these)
Amazon Amazon

Comes in at around $88 per change. Even lower, the Mahle OEM filter is at eeuroparts right now for $10 though it's $100 minimum for free shipping https://eeuroparts.com/product/mahle/OX1281DECO

I've not seen any good evidence the leftover oil goes "bad" if stored in a tightly sealed container. If others have it please post it.

BTW, the title on this post needs updating, many dealerships now charge $600!

Edit: Just noticing you can get Mobil 1 on Amazon for $27 for 5L though I don't use it. Since the dealers buy it in bulk they are getting it quite a bit cheaper than that. What a racket those guys are running.

wow! Motul huh? I used to run that when I was into sport bikes. Didn't realize they made oils for cars too.

A popular choice among motorsports fans in Europe. The 8100 X-Cess 4W50 was popular in the 996/997 community until LM came to the US market.
