I can't blame you. Now that most experts on M97 based Porsches strongly recommend using shorter change intervals going to the dealership and paying $500 per change is not wise anymore.

If you don't want to change your own oil, I would say purchase the oil and drain plugs/washers when there are deals. Then, get a respected local Porsche independent to change it for you, but whatever you do, NEVER take your Porsche to a quick lube shop.

I wonder if they charged you what they did, because it was an a la carte service, and thus charged you shop rates. Oil change should be a 'fixed package' price.

Last year, Porsche North Scottsdale charged me $219 for 'sports car oil service' for the 997, and later in the year charged me $270 for 'sports car oil service' for my GT3.

I agreed

I am older than Moses but a blackmail 550 for oil change is worth 30 minute DIY effort with a pair of rino ramps

I have have a mancave and four post lift so its a little bit of a no brainer for me but still

Find a local buddy and enjoy a nice bourbon and cigar afternoon DIY oil change

$500 here. The only reason I'm paying that highway robbery is to get the little data point on the Carfax. Its good for resale and historical reasons. Porsche guys like that more official paper trail.

You can download the Carfax Car Care app and just upload all your repair/maint receipts there and also include any that you do yourself like oil changes or battery replacements. Then, when you sell the car, all that can be provided to the buyer too. No reason to do $500 oil changes unless you just don’t want to do them yourself which is fine too.

$488 in Los Angeles (South Bay Porsche in Torrance CA). Was ~$350 pre-COVID. Indy is at least 1/3 to 1/2 of the stealership price.

We hear ya. At a spry 50 years old I have no problems throwing myself under my cars and rolling around to do regular maintenance. Although I have been doing regular maintenance on all my cars since high school age, I know some day it won't be so easy.
It's a 30 minute job tops for a dealer or mechanic with lift, and most of that time is prepping or cleaning up. Find yourself a respectable independent mechanic and ask if they are ok if you provide your own oil and filter. Figure $100 to purchase a filter, crush ring, and about 9 quarts of your favorite oil. I think a reasonable and honest mechanic would charge you accordingly. They are out there, just need to do a little homework. If you have the time, there are obsessive/compulsive ways of keeping records or receipts for all your own maintenance. For a lot of us these are not collectible cars and we like to drive them and put miles on them. Keeping a paper trail should be a good habit, but it will all depend on the buyer when it's time to sell.

My thinking too. Used to do it but with a lowered car, space is still tight underneath. So just had my oil changed and went a different route. Bought the oil and filter kit online and brought it to Zippy Lube 10 minutes from my house along with the torque numbers for the drain plug and the filter housing. They already had the torque figures. He showed me what he had and it was spot on. "We don't do Porsches every day but we do them on a regular basis" he told me. He also said that everyone do what I did. Bring the oil they want and the filter kit. They even cut the old filter open to check for any metal without me asking for it.

Labor cost? $24.95 so between that, the oil and the filter kit I paid less than $150 for the whole thing. Maybe even less than $125. I forget now but what the dealers charge for oil changes is robbery. Especially since what they do is no different than what Zippy Lube or any other chain that does oil changes all day long do. So $24.95 is something I'll gladly pay for not having to deal with jacking the car up safely, crawl around on my back on the garage floor and then dispose of the old oil.

At that price, it ought to be done by a hot woman who's a certified Porsche mechanic wearing very little and the waiting area should have a nice view of the garage - good lord.

I wouldn't be able (or should I say want to) own these cars if it had to have them dealer serviced.

Find an indy or a friend who works on cars. I'd do your oil change for you while we shared the few beers you brought with you.

This actually sounds like a solid business model. Serve beer and you're set.

Guess you aren't using m1? Cuz it's about $60 all in, without the rebate. $20 for filter and $40 for oil or has that also doubled?
