$500 oil change…?

For what it is worth, the large Porsche dealership up here in Victoria BC charges $485 (plus tax!) for an oil change, and that's why we sometimes call it a "stealership," of course.

I understand. I am 65 years old and can afford dealer oil changes. But I enjoy working on my car. My 997.2 is one of the easiest oil changes I have ever done. I can change my oil without even jacking up the car. I think you can do it. Watch a DIY video on YouTube and try it one time. I think you will be pleased after you do and you will start changing your own oil from now on. You can afford 3 DIY oil changes for the price of one dealer change so you can change it more often. Your car will like that too. Plus you will have that sense of personal accomplishment that I always get after working on my car.

It’s one of the easiest oil changes.
Consider doing it yourself.

Thanks. What I suspected. Just got curious if there was some "m1" package deal out there as a well kept secret. Went back and checked what I paid:
M1 oil...8 qts: $55
Filter kit plus shipping from Suncoast: $45
Labor: $24.95
Total: $124.95
Not a drop of oil on the garage floor by the way and the tech who did my change at Zippy Lube actually showed me how he threw out the old crush washer while holding the new one in his other hand. So I don't subscribe to the notion that you can't let someone reputable other than the dealership do these simple jobs without destroying your car. The fact that they had the exact torque numbers for both the drain plug and the filter housing on hand already didn't hurt either.
They had clearly done this before having the torque numbers and swearing about how long 911's take to drain. They don't take appointments so they want you in and out quickly. But they waited patiently until the last drops came to an end I got the impression they knew what they were doing and felt comfortable about it.

That’s correct. I usually grab a few jugs from wallyworld when they have rebates and grab a mahle 254 filter off Amazon or whenever I’m ordering other things from pelican or fcp ($15-$20).
Only problem I have is I may have changed oil recently but forgot to note it in my app (maybe). I have 3 cars that take 0-40 and now I’ve forgotten which one I changed out. I used to write a date on the filter but stopped doing that with the app. Guess I’ll just do another oil change at the end of the summer to be sure.

I just changed mine last week. I ordered my oil from walmart. They delivered to my porch (within two hours (19.49 per 5qt jug), ordered three. Filter and washer (about 12.00) from Pelican. Total cost including tax about 47 bucks and about one hour of my time but that includes cleaning engine while I was waiting for the oil to drain. I am 67 years young.

I can top that…how about a $6,000 oil change…? So I’m sitting outside at Starbucks and a guy drives up in a Ferrari 458 and his wife in a new GT3. Lucky guy! I’m chatting with a friend who just bought a 996 about my dealer experience, posted here and the Ferrari drives chimes in, “My dealer charges $6K for my Aventador oil change, and if you don’t change the oil at the dealer, they invalidate the warranty”.
blew my mind
