Default "Notchy" When cold (gearbox)?

Just bought a well serviced '05 C2S with 39k miles. One thing I noticed is shifting is really notchy while I am warming it in the first 10 minutes or so.
Then it's OK although or course too long a throw and if the Numeric total conversion wasn't so pricey I would do it.
Normal? I had an '06 Cayman S before that and never had that problem FWIW.

The 1-2 shift being notchy is a common complaint. I find it like you to be worse when cold. Double clutching when cold gets rid of it for me.

Reading on here I don’t think there is a true fix, just more subjective incremental improvements. Those include:
-numeric shifter
-numeric cables
-changing out fluid for ptx
-recentering shifter
-motor mounts
-changing out shifter linkage to all metal
-some others I am forgetting

I have most of the above with a vast improvement but no true fix.

Pretty common across many generations of 911. Some cars always do this, others do not.

09 C2S, 44k, my 1-2 is also notchy for the first few shifts when cold, usually gone in a few minutes/few shifts. It reminds me not to rev over 3k until warmed up - everything nice and easy for the first few minutes.

Thanks, yeah my 2001 did it but not as noticeable as this 2005. I am thinking of replacing the cables only for Numeric.

Welcome to the club.
My '05 has the same thing. Pretty notchy when cold, much better when warmer.
However, 1-2 shift is never done quickly like the following gears.
Recommended gear oil change and brand helped a little.

Congrats on the car looks great!

Common issue. Notchiness improved with Function First engine mounts, Shift Right Solution kit, and PTX transaxle oil.

Ah. I have yet to hear about: Shift Right. I can certainly Google them but appreciate more detail on them. Shift Right..cables ?

I recently upgraded my engine mounts, transmission mount, and shift cables to Function First. I also changed the oil to PTX. While all of these helped, there's still some of that notchy feeling when cold. After warming up, all gears are smooth as butter.

Totally normal espically when cold... Changing the old fluid helped a bit ... but don't expect miracles.

Mine's notchy in 1-2 when cold with 16k on it. Just one of those Porsche things.

No solution for a cold transmission. I get the most resistance going into 2nd when cold, so I just shift from 1st to 3rd when leaving the house. Fist 2 miles is downhill anyway so going into third doesn't lug the car.

Don’t go wasting money on a bunch of aftermarket stuff. This is just one of the reminders your car uses to keep you in check until all systems are go. This and the oil temp gauge.

Joking aside, I consider it a feature, not a flaw.
