New Vendor Intro: Heavy Knobs
As a recent customer of Heavy *****, I wanted to do my part to share the results of this modification with all of you, and I made time to document the individual part weights for everyone from the point of view of a neutral party. For background, I somewhat recently received an IXI **** that I had planned to use, but upon actually using it in my 2008 Porsche 911 GT2 I really didn't care for the feel of the **** itself, meaning the aluminum surface and the way it connected to the stock shifter assembly. The IXI unit was a high quality part for sure, but had me completely missing my alcantara wrapped factory shift ****. Enter Heavy ***** with a different solution...
It was obvious from my first glance at the actual parts that a tremendous amount of thought and care went into the production of this Heavy ***** system. At first I had been lamenting the price (quietly, not publicly) and wondering how or why they were priced so high for simple parts that would never be seen. I can assure you that the first time I saw the parts all those thoughts immediately disappeared. This is serious engineering effort, and very impressive and thoughtful in its execution.
I then took some time to go through the included installation instructions online. I'm used to DIY instructions with really lousy photos and descriptions from other vendors, and was very pleasantly surprised to see that these instructions were extremely clear and detailed. The included photos were also very easy to see and well lit, everything I could ask for. There are even two methods of installation presented (1 and 2) and I did a somewhat hybrid approach as I removed and disassembled the entire **** in the process. I was missing a Torx T9 bit (had everything larger than T10) so I had to run to the hardware store to get that, but otherwise this was a very smooth and seamless installation. I became even more impressed when I searched the history of this thread as it was obvious that the instructions were enhanced due to user feedback, and so my own experience had already benefitted from other customers who came before me.
One tip I will offer is if you have plastic interior panel removal tools, which I think every Porsche owner should, you can use the sharp tip of one of those to pop the shifter **** cap off so that you don't have to use anything made of metal.
I want to take my hat off to Asim (Heavy *****) at this time as I am truly impressed with the efforts that went into his engineering of this fine product and also instructions. It's very rare to see this level of detail at all in the aftermarket, and it always brightens my day when I come across it. Although I haven't gone for a drive yet, I can already say that the results will be noticeable as I did use the similarly heavy IXI **** before and enjoyed everything about it but the surface material/texture. Now I will have my cake and can eat it too, thanks to Heavy *****.
Please find attached photos of all the weights of component parts and before and after of the shifter. If anyone has any questions, please feel free to ask.
