Help with my amp
Hi,
I am new to your group, my name is Andy and I’m based in Cambridge.
I have recently purchased a 2006 911 Carrera S. When I unlock the the car there is a distant sound rumbling in the speakers. This remains until the stereo is turned on and the music drowns it out. Once the engine is stopped and the music turned off, it can be heard again. I have lowered the roof then locked the car and the sound remains until the car (as I’ve been told) goes into sleep mode.
I have taken the car into my local in car entertainment Center and they have located the noise and said it’s coming from the amp. They told me the easiest/least expensive way to resolve this is to have the amp either looked at or replaced. They have quoted £2500 for an amp
and new speakers.
I’ve searches online and found an amp that has been removed by a breaker from a 2006 911 coupe. The part numbers of my amp and the coupe are very similar but not the same. My amp part number is 997.645.332.00 cabrio HW 09. The amp I’ve seen for sale has this part number 997.645.331.01 coupe HW 09. My speakers are non Bose.
Does anyone know if this amp from the coupe is compatible?
Thank you all,
Andy

Do you have to put your ear up to the speakers to hear the rumbling? Or is it obvious just sitting inside of the car?
There are places that should be able to repair the amp instead of replacing. But since you're in Europe, I'm not sure who offers the service there.

Hi and thank you for your reply. To be honest, you don’t have to put your ear close to the speakers, you can hear it when sitting in either of the seats. At times it’s quieter than others but it’s clear enough to hear without getting close to the speakers.

Cab has single sub driver, Coupe has it's own amp inside the two 5" driver sub enclosure.
Perhaps the digital timing differs to account for relative position in car.
Or its standard amp vs Bose amp.
Who would ever know? Porsche is famous for having many iterations and part# for seemingly the exact same item, but with never explained differences.
Good Luck!

If you don't have Bose all the connections are normal stereo connections. Just buy a new amp with the number of channels and power you need that fits in the space for a few hundred dollars.

Hi BLU997,
Thank you for your reply. Do you mean that the amp's are physically different or just the internals? The amp I have seen for sale looks identical to mine in every aspect.
