Suncoast 991.2 steering wheel hack
Hi All,
Having spent the last few weeks on a mission to upgrade the triangle airbag steering wheel on my 6MT 997.2, I wanted to pass along what I construe to be a pretty great deal available through Suncoast that isn't readily apparent from simply skimming through their website.
After I settled on the 991.2 smaller diameter "GT" steering wheel, my only option for buying seemed to be a used wheel on eBay or here, or a brand new wheel from suncoast. Most of the 991.2 wheels out there are the larger/standard size found on the Macans, etc. The smaller GT wheels are a bit harder to come by.
I noticed suncoast listed the following wheel for $995: https://www.suncoastparts.com/product/991LEAG2GT.html
The picture shows what looks to be a PDK wheel with multifunction and the sports chrono dial. Many know these newer 991.2 wheels are modular and the parts to convert from pdk/manual, mf/non-mf, are all available. In my case, however, I wanted all black wheel trim without mf and without the dial, just like the 911R.
To make that wheel in the link work for my needs, I would have had to buy, or so I thought, the following additional items:
These items along with the wheel would have been nearly $1,500, so I initially dismissed it.
However, I contacted suncoast and asked if the wheel could be configured in a "manual transmission spec" to which they replied that it could. So, for $995, I was able to order the wheel without pdk paddles and thus with the correct manual back cap in place, and with the black center trim without the sports chrono dial. The only item there was no getting around was the mf trim, the wheel comes with the mf trim no matter what. To delete that, I did have to order the non-mf black trim for another $105.
So I basically got the 911R wheel for $1,100. Given what some folks are selling used GT wheels for, I thought this was a pretty good deal.
I did check with suncoast before posting this and they were cool with me sharing. They only asked that anyone with any questions reach out to info@suncoastparts.com for more info. I would certainly recommend reaching out before you blindly buy a particular configuration.

- non-mf trim inserts
- a new manual back cap
- a new center "face" trim given I didn't want the sport chrono dial (if you simply remove the dial, there is a big hole left in the center trim, so you need a new center trim piece)
These items along with the wheel would have been nearly $1,500, so I initially dismissed it.

Installed and loving the new wheel

Burning Brakes
Good to know! That’s similar to the spec I’ve thought about getting, with the only difference being silver non-MF trim.
Thanks

I believe the wheel comes in PDK form with paddles, multifunction, and the sports chrono dial/**** as a default. I had to custom order to delete the paddles and sports chrono dial/****.
