RWB 997
#16
The choice of 997s over 996s interests me because he previously focused on 964s originally even though his first car was a 930 (I believe).
at the time (10 years ago at least) 964s were in the 20k range for a decent one. In light of that, 997s make sense to me.
I like them and for people who want them blended in, that can be done...but I still prefer my car as is right now over the RWB look.
In person these things are gnarly though.

I’ve seen several RWB cars in person and I was not impressed with the workmanship. On two separate cars, the large rear wings were crooked at their bases because they were sagging under their own weight. Presumably because they were made of fiberglass that wasn’t reenforced.
Compared to RUF or Singer they’re hack jobs.

As for the looks, not my cuppa tea.. that said, I do like some of his 964 builds found on youtube.

I like the look and style of the early model RWB's, because I am partial to modifying cars and love JDM style. However, there is a point where they get a little obscene. I feel like 30% of the time they look fantastic and something very cool, but it is not everyones cup of tea for sure. Like mentioned above, I am surprised he skipped the 996 generation completely. It would have probably rose the value of 996's alone and there are plenty to choose from at a lower price point. My thoughts are that 997's are popular right now and the market for tuning-997's is probably pretty profitable at the moment.
Id like a full track spec 997 RWB but bolting on the fenders on an oem 997 seems kind of meh...

To be clear, I’m not at all a hater of widebody kits. Some of the Liberty Walk cars look insane. I was just really disappointed with the RWB cars when I saw them up close. I mean, these are basically functional Hot Wheels cars. Looking cool is their whole thing, so if they have warped bodywork that’s a letdown.

I saw the first RWB beeing transformed in France and it was quite impressive because even if there is a lot of work in preaparation, the all assembling occures in 2 days only.
So for me those are show cars created in some kind of show and after that you have a RWB like you might have a paint or other art.
So doing it with 997 why not if you have money and don't know what to buy anymore ^^

Never have and never will like these style kits. Bolted on fender flares look like they were something ordered from the JC Whitney catalog for a pickup truck and screwed into the body. The 997 has a nice shape all by itself and doesn't need this crap screwed to it, ruining the lines, not to mention what the cost of these kits is.

The warped bodywork and gaps are part of it. RAUH-Welt (The RW in the RWB) translates to Rough World. Fit and finish is for polite society in the light of day. When he was young Nakai-san worked in a body shop and raced at night. He has the skill and material to make things perfect but that isn't the build philosophy. Racing up mountain roads is dangerous. Body panels scrape against railing or get crunched bumping other cars and they need to be fixed for the next race. It isn't for Pebble Beach. It's for 2 a.m. on a moonless night.
Thanks, Makes Sense

I like the exposure to the 997 but for the life of me, I just can't get with the whole RWB look. It's too Bosozoku and not my cup of tea.
There is a RWB 993 in my area and every time I see it, I immediately think of a hovercraft.

As regards the riveted / eBay fender-flares thing, don't forget it was Porsche that did it first with the 993 GT2 (street) and 993 GT2 EVO (race) cars.
Those factory models are worth bazillions today...
Whether you think RWB pulls it off or not, their signature fender flares are attempting to emulate the look of some of the most coveted cars ever produced by Porsche.
Karl.

Wrong crowd but this is the 3rd part in a 3 part series.

I like my car looking stock with a little sauce on top, so this isn't for me but I do like the rear view.

I can appreciate the artistry behind it but I don’t like it.
