porsche does like to charge a lot for options. Have you seen their CF part prices vs aftermarket with minimal differences? No reason to think hp parts are any different.

BMW has become "creative" with the performance upgrades and pricing. I had an F32 435i - and BMW offered an "M-Performance Power Kit" for it. The option was about $1,800 plus a $300 - $400 "installation" labor at the dealer.

The upgrade consisted of a change in software; a new plastic engine cover / shroud; and vinyl stripes for the rockers. That's what you get for $2k+. (One of many reasons that I've distanced myself from BMW now.)

At least with the Porsche upgrades you get real parts.

I had that option too installed at the port. +35 hp (claimed) warrantied gain wasn't all that bad for $2k. That N55 pulled pretty hard to redline.

I had it installed after having owned it for a year.

I couldn't detect much of any difference. I regretted spending the money on it.

The car itself was compromise-ridden. Bloated. 1st Gen electric steering was just plain bad - and a complete departure from the steering feel that BMW had mastered in former generations. The opposite from what I wanted in a "sports coupe". Novocaine-mobile.

But that's another discussion...

No disagreement with the sometimes absurd prices Porsche charges for parts and upgrades/options. But as Prariedawg pointed out, with the X 51 power kit you got more than just a different exhaust system and intake. You got new heads, intake manifold, updated tune, and an increase in engine RPM's. Having owned a regular DFI 997 C4S I can say that the X 51 adds a different characteristic to the engine. At least to my overall senses.

As for the advertised 23 hp bump, I'm sure it's there but as I said in an earlier post, the difference is hard to sense. To me, the different sound and characteristic of the X 51 DFI engine is more notable than the hp increase.

Thank you guys for all the input. I’m currently having my 2007 C2 Cab lowered with H and R springs and having the tubi exhaust and the Fabspeed carbon fiber intake installed.

The stance of your car is going to look amazing. The exhaust and intake are going to compliment each other. Consider adding the bigger plenum and throttle body.
