997 Turbo stick for sure. Will be worth more than a 991 Carrera in short order - actually, probably is already and appreciating, whereas the 991s aren't as there's not much unique about those vs the current 992 offering.

You will be impressed.....you will not need anymore power on any car, ever........it will drive like a Camrey about town UNTIL YOU PUT YOUR FOOT DOWN.....The pull from the Turbo starting around 3k RPM's is amazing......asked if the coolant pipes have been pinned ($3000 to address)

I'd say start older (997 Turbo) and enjoy it for a while as it holds its value—and possibly appreciates—and then flip it later if you want to try a 991, which at that point will be cheaper and a better place to put your money due to depreciation.
Good luck—hope you get lots of enjoyment out of whatever you choose!

Right now, 997.1 turbos (coupe manuals) are the same price as 991.2 base (maybe s with higher miles). 997.1 is > 991.2 base in all aspects minus a few creature comforts. Like others have said, they will hold their value/appreciate slightly.
The only way I'd consider selling my 997.1 turbo is when 991.2 GTS prices are of equal value.

Both great cars, I've had a 991.2 GTS and currently have the 997.1 Turbo. I prefer the Turbo but that's my personal preference, it rides much better and the acceleration is just mind bending.

Agree with others here. I recently picked up an '11 TTS - absolutely love it. For me, the 997 gen is the perfect blend of classic Porsche styling, size and analog driving with modern day technology. The 991.1 is when the 911 started morphing into the GT car that it is today. It definitely outperforms all of it's 997 counterparts, but feels more removed and incorporates more nannies. I prefer the driving experience of the 997 as compared to the 991; however depending on what you're looking for you might prefer something a littler large and muted. The 991's are great cars in their own right, just different animals than the 997's

2009 and earlier have that special motor. Not arguing the performance gains off the shelf for 2010 and later, but I will argue that the Mezger is what I would choose hands down if I had the option.

Mezger! Also these cars don't feel dated at all and have tremendous power.
