Default REMOVING Stock Mufflers- 2005 C2S

Those 2 brackets that hold each muffler with approx 4" bolts: They hit inner bodywork when trying to slide them up. How do you get these things out? I know I'm doing something wrong.
Thanks.

I removed my mufflers by taking out the three bolts holding the entire bracket. Also had to remove the wheel well support to give me a bit more maneuvering room. When I did the reassembly, I reversed those long bolts so I could remove them quickly if I ever needed to.

Cheers,

^ this.

Unbolt the brackets and you can easily get at the long bolts on the pivots when the mufflers are out of the car.

Thanks Don: My thoughts exactly on why those bolts were not reversed so they would simply drop down. Porsche safety measure I guess. So cannot recall....those 3 bolt brackets you removed....one per muffler?

Yes. One bracket per muffler. Just did this to install my Fister mufflers.

Yes that is my intent as well. Have you installed and what is your opinion in terms of increase in sound and any disappointments?

I've had them on the car for a couple months or so now and like them just fine. They behave well when just cruising around but really open up the sound when I put by boot into it. Also, no obnoxious droning. So far, I like them quite a bit and have no interest in changing to something louder.

Cheers,

I cut the long bolts and replaced them with stainless versions and nuts when installing the new mufflers, putting the bolts in from the bottom this time instead of the top, so future removals are easy.

Creative approach. Of course getting in there to make the cut may be a little tight but I like it.

Can't remember how I did this as it was 7 or 8 years ago. Pretty sure I did it with either a Dremel tool with a cutoff wheel or a compact 12v Bosch sawzall / body saw I have.

Well so after a few other considerations, that's the path I am pursuing. Undo the nut, put duct tape over the bottom of the bracket so the top of the bolt pops up. Now the fun part: angling the Dremel tool enough to start it's cut. Spun a few of them so take your time. Good to have the largest ones you have so it reaches the bolt. The one you can get to thru the rear wheel well is easier. Jack up the car a few strokes and you can get your light and Dremel in there. Then on to the clamp and the 10mm nut holding the body support and hopefully it drops down easily. Then repeat. I got a shop rate of 4 hrs total at $135/hr to remove and reinstall so this better be worth it. PITA but I'm all in now.
