Default 997.2 C2S Cab to 997.2 turbo s swap

I need to replace my 997.2 S 3.8 NA PDK motor and before I swap for another identical motor, I want to explore HP upgrades. I found a motor with all harnesses and accessories from a low miles 2011 997.2 Turbo S PDK. Has anyone on here done a similar swap? Both cars have the 5th digit “B” and both are PDK. Thx.

Never have seen a swap like that done. Not saying it can't be done, but it's a matter of how much money you're willing to put into a swap like this. For instance, someone just swapped a GT3 engine into a C2. There's most likely going to be a lot of programming required to get everything to communicate properly. I also cannot imagine that the PDK transmissions are the same between the two cars given that the C2S has a lot less torque than the Turbo S. But I'd need to check part numbers on the two transmissions.

If you have interest in a Turbo S, I'd consider selling the C2S as is, then buying a Turbo S separately. I understand this will likely be more money, but if you ever do plan to sell the C2S later, I think you'd have a more challenging time.

The DME's are also likely different. I know in my RUF supercharged car, they actually use the DME from a TT as there are a lot more engine parameters to control in the forced induction motor with respect to timing advance, knock detection and what happens when it's detected, etc. My car also uses a non-standard Bosch MAF that's not even available in the US - for spares, I had to buy them from Poland. My point is this is not going to be a simple plug and play. Also, how are you going to feed air to the turbo intercoolers - that's what the intake vents in the rear fenders are for.

Yes I was wondering where I could route the intakes. Maybe downward? I’d like to keep a stock look with it.

I don't think intakes will be your main concern after ECU/wiring. It'll be where do you put your intercoolers because the turbo shell has intakes in the fender (and widebody) to feed those ICs. There's not really enough space to package a top mount IC like on aircooled cars either without some serious custom work with an aftermarket decklid.

If you're going to embark on an motor swap, you'll have more traction with a gt3 motor swap since there's less packaging to deal with like turbos/intercoolers. You'll get a nice power bump as well as a sweet mezgar howl.

That is certainly a strong consideration. There is a guy doing that now with his 997.1. I’d really dig a GT3 motor in there mated with my PDK. I just don’t see as wide of availability of the GT3 motors. Plenty of 997.2 Turbos around.

Just as a follow up, my 2009 997.2 S PDK is going into the shop this week to take one more look at the motor before rebuild or replacement. Ideally a 4.0 would be cool but I'm trying to keep the costs below $20k all in. I found a decent replacement with the same mileage as mine for $12k. Maybe $2500 for the swap. So under $15k total. I have read the 4.0 rebuild on my motor would be $30-40k so that is out of the realm of possibility.

Anyone have any experience having their 997.2 rebuilt yet? Any gotchas I should look out for?

Thx

What is the reason for the engine needing a rebuild? Bore scored? Best of luck on an affordable replacement.

You might want to look at OEM 3.8 motor from what I recall it's only $16k after the core.

And/or 991 3.8 which is 400hp motor with some changes...These can be had used for $10-12k with extremely low miles.

I was told the 991 motors won’t work as a 997.2 replacement as the ECUs won’t recognize it. I have found many reasonable low priced 991 engines.

OEM motor is $29k and no mention of core credit.

Maybe there is some ECU swap along with the 991 I don’t know about
