Default DIY: How to clear sunroof and body drains on a 997 Coupe

Hi guys. After dealing with water intrusion issues on my Cayenne, I decided to check the drains on my 997. There isn't much info on how to clear the sunroof and body drains on the 997, so I created a video. Hope this is helpful for others.

Overall, the process isn't too bad. Here are the general steps:
1. Clean the 4 body drains by the battery. Simply remind l remove the plastic battery cover and surrounding panels.
2. Clean the front sunroof drains using warm, soapy water. Pour a little at first to make sure the drain isn't clogged. If it isn't, flush about 1 litter of soapy water in each drain. If it is clogged, allow the soapy water up penetrate and break up the blockage. If that doesn't work, insert weed whacker string into the drain hole and aggregate the blockage. If that still doesn't work, insert the weed whack string into the other end of the drains, which are located behind the front fender liners.
3. Clean the rear sunroof drains, which are located in the rear wheel wells towards the engine by inserting weed whacker sting.

Let me know what you all think of this method.

Cheers,
Dennis

Can I borrow your car?

With the top partially down, you'll find a drain on each side underneath the top cover. You can put warm soapy water though that. The drains exit in front of the rear wheels in the wheel wells. There could be other drains, but those two are the main ones.

If a drain is clogged and you force compressed air into them you can separate a drain tube junction at a very inopportune position. I would recommend not doing it this way. The weed wacker string is a better method.

Blowing compress air through is okay if you're doing it all the time and are sure there isn't a clog, but I agree that the weed whacker string plus warm, soap water is the safer option.

I don't disagree as I never blew out a solid clog.... but the weedwacker line has a serious problem which led me to blow them out. If you feed the line down from the roof, down the A pillar, it hits a 90 degree angle where it goes into the wheel well. The wacker line can not negotiate this curve so you really can't do a full clearing. All you can do it poke at it. At least I could not get that line to magically bend.

If you are worried that blowing it out may blow apart the line, just poor some water down there... if it drains, albeit slowly, you have a place where the air pressure can go. While I have no proof other than my success on my own car, I doubt that you will blow the line from its mounts.

Peace
