I have had good dealing with Autonationn stores. I actually think Autonation and the Sonic owned stores have the best pricing and the best cars. They are huge network of dealerships and have massive access to inventory so they keep the prices down.

I purchased my GTS still under a prior CPO for about $6k to $8k under market value at an Autonation Mercedes dealership. Like this ad you criticize, they put mine up within an hour or two of taking it in on trade just to get it out there quickly and at a good price.

You can be all negative and write off their ads as sloppy, but that is pretty narrow sighted considering they have great cars at great deals obviously listed as soon as it came in and before even being photographed. Does not take a huge amount of effort to make a phone and ask more detailed questions and check vin for options.

I used to always scan Sonic Automotive used car inventory. They have about 7 to 10 Porsche dealerships and always had really good prices.

Well said. I bought my 997.2 from an Autonation dealer last fall at what I’d consider a huge discount vs. the market value. It was exactly the situation you describe...trade in, car had not been detailed yet, no pictures, etc. They posted it up to move it fast. They even had the exterior paint color wrong (the car was a special order color and they had it posted as a standard color)!
On these types of ads, it’s often worth picking up the phone and taking with someone standing next to the car. I’m my case the salesman was shockingly straightforward, responsive, texted me pics, videos, etc. The car was on the opposite side of the country and the deal went smooth as silk.
Another nice bonus for me was that as part of the AuotNation policy, the car went through a legitimate inspection. It received an oil change, new rear tires (good quality Continentals at that), wiper/washer pump replaced, and a few other small items that would have cost a couple grand.
Again, I was shocked by all of this...but sometimes the worse an ad is, the greater the opportunity for you to score a great deal!

They had my GTS listed as an S and as Cream white instead of White. I ran the Vin to try and see if it was a 2012 997.2 S or 2012 991.1 S and it came back as a 2012 GTS. It was listed late Saturday night for $64,000 (2012 GTS with 29k miles, Clean Car Fax Under CPO). It was priced more like an S than a GTS and was listed as an S. I called early Sunday morning and held it through another store as that lot with my GTS on it was closed. On Monday morning, the lot was not sure what it was as the sales manager had driven home and was not back yet. I said I wanted it if it was a GTS pending a PPI.

This dealership was super nice and easy. They took it for a PPI and picked me up at the Waco airport. $64k for a 2012 GTS with only 29k miles is a pretty good deal and then they cut me a check for another $1,000 to cover TPMs because light was on. They could not reduce price because no haggle, but they sent me a check.

So I got my 2012 GTS pdk Cabriolet with 29k miles for $63k from them. This thing was loaded out to about $130k sticker and had a really nice after market touch screen stereo with back up camera, JL amp and Focal Kevlar speakers, tint, leather wrapped steering wheel, nice floor mats trimmed in red and etc.

If you say it's a good dealership with solid cars at good prices that you have personal experience with I take your word for it. I just never saw an ad for a Porsche as sloppily put together as this one, that's all. Can you at least agree that someone who has no prior experience with this dealer might wonder about their overall attention to detail given the lack of attention and accuracy putting a simple ad together?

I'm all for getting a car on the market as quickly as humanly possible once it's for sale but a cab is not a coupe, a GTS is not a Turbo and a PDK is not a manual. These are not difficult things to get right even if you're in a hurry. Some first time Porsche buyers may get confused and move on and some current or former Porsche owners may have second thoughts about a dealership that fails to describe what they're selling on a number of basic issues. That said, I agree that all it takes is a phone call to verify what's they really have. Some won't bother though thinking that if they can't pay enough attention to accuracy and detail putting the ad together, what else are they overlooking.

That is absolutely a valid viewpoint as well. It is sloppy, and certainly doesn’t build buyer confidence! I think everyone here is just saying the same thing, which is take advantage of your knowledge and don’t assume that the seller has anywhere close to the same level of knowledge on the topic. Assume that they very well may not know what they have. How many times have we all talked to a car salesperson and known for more about the car in question than they do? To a big dealership group, every car is akin to a pack of gum, a commodity to be treated as such. Their goal is to move it into the next owner’s hands as quickly as possible because they are losing money on it for every day it sits.

Some are just grumpy and looking to complain about something, anything. Not necessarily Sandwedge, but that does seem to be getting more and more the American way which is one of the reasons I am moving to Bali next month. The US is getting weirder by the week and I don't even think most of us see it because of conditioning.

It should be obvious when something is posted up without photos and generic ads by a Porsche dealership or Sonic, Autonation type of company it is probably a new trade in. For those not looking to get cranky and looking for a good deal or awesome car, these are the ones to jump on and spend perhaps a minute or 2 to run Vinanalytics on to see options, colors and etc These cars will likely move quickly.

Even on Cars.com, there are usually a few new generic listing with no photos by Porsche dealerships and a lot of those are CPO cars by Porsche dealers.

My experience is that Porsche dealerships usually get the better inventory (not always, but generally) and then the CPO cars are generally the better 911s. These cars, however, can move quickly.

If shopping for a 911 or GTS and see a brand new generic ad anywhere, be smart to call as those cars will probably not last long enough for phot sessions and a real ad after detailing.

So don't be judgmental and move quickly if you want a shot at some of the best 911s on the market.

They listed it correctly, they just had an ad with what was obviously a stock, generic picture (was not even a real photo) of a Porsche. I have seen that same generic stock picture used many times on many ads when they don't have photos.

They did NOT list a manual transmission. They listed it as a PDK. You were complaining because it was listed a pdk, but the transmission symbol in the Form Diagram used to plug in information showed a picture of a shift pattern. Lol, that is just the form symbol used where you type in or enter the actual transmission type such as PDK. The dealer typed in PDK.

This advertisement form has the same symbol for the transmission spot and the dealership entered the transmission type correctly as PDK.

Honestly, if someone is so dumb and inpatient to go by a single generic, not even real photo and not bother to read what is listed, they probably don't need a high performance sports car.

Smokin' deal for someone. I don't give a sh*t about a sloppy ad. In fact, I welcome it because others may gloss over it.

This white 2007 GT3RS is the record-holder for price on Bringatrailer at $230,000 plus fees. It was for sale on Ebay for something around $125-130K. The ad was so bad people thought it was a scam. Bad pictures and description.

Guys that trade in vintage McIntosh tube amps scour Ebay and Craigslist with the name spelled correctly as well as Macintosh. My wife's Tesla X P90 was priced as a standard 90 at Carmax. We bought it at $15-20k below market for back then.

Speaking of poorly prepared listing here is how poor mine car was presented when I purchased on ebay. Ebay purchase protection plus "New car smell" in the description and matching VIN made me feel I've nothing to lost by bidding. I'm sure those who are "bad ad" sensitive missed out.

And who cares anyway. I predicted the 997 had bottomed out two years ago. Nowhere but up if you have a good example. Maybe it won't go up much, but certainly better than the cars I've bought that depreciated huge. Hell, I'll even take break even.

That's why I bought 997.2 GT3 a couple of months ago. And in two months the market has increased. And I'm enjoying the hell out of it.

No I'm not grumpy and I'm not looking for things to complain about. I just thought that this dealership which I think you gave high marks did themselves a disservice by not making the ad more generic instead of misrepresenting a number of items. One example, they're selling a black GTS cab so why put a photo of a silver turbo cab in the ad instead of simply stating...."photos coming soon". See that all the time. For cars, real estate and other high priced merchandise. That will probably generate more phone call inquiries than conflicting pictures and details that's confusing to some.

On another note, good luck with the Bali move. Hope it works out without issues and/or obstacles. My wife and I were discussing the exact reason for your move last night. So much friction and anger in the US these days. Whatever happened to compromise and just a little bit of tolerance for whatever may not be exactly the way you want it to be or think it should be?
