Default 997.2 Headlight Crazing

Hey all, been a while since I posted, still been enjoying my 997.2 tremendously. However, in the last year, both my tail lights and headlights have a ton of “crazing” in them. These micro cracks in the plastic lens can’t be sanded out, so I am looking for solutions to replace the lenses. The rear taillights aren’t a wallet killer (compared to the fronts), but the 997.2 xenon lights are ~1500 a side, which is crazy. Since the headlights still work fine, has anyone successfully purchased the cheaper 997.1 halogen light assembly and moved the 997.2 xenon guts into them? I hate paying all that extra money to replace parts that already work fine. Thanks!

Now that it has been damaged there is not much you can do except live with it and make sure no more damage takes place. Many if not all films provide UV protection.

I used this Sylvania headlight restoration kit on my daughter’s car and the results were amazing.

SYLVANIA - Headlight Restoration Kit - 3 Easy Steps to Restore Sun Damaged Headlights With Exclusive UV Block Clear Coat, Light Output and Beam Pattern Restored, Long Lasting Protection https://www.amazon.com/dp/B00429NKWK/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_glc_fabc_W9K3FbRFA74S8?_encoding=UTF8&psc=1

The final step is the application of a UV block / Clear Coat that would likely fill in all the “crazing” you describe. Good luck!

2009 C2S 167K miles

Mine all look pretty good... the rears look well darn near perfect. So you may have luck at the popular junk yards. Have you tried a used parts place like DC Automotive or Oklahoma Foreign... assuming they are still in business?

Peace

I assume the crazing is actually throughout the plastic and not just on the surface like the yellowing an oxidation occurs? If so, the headlight resto kit won't do much for you. Another option would be to buy a cheap set of damaged lights and replace just the lens. The Xenon on my car were taken apart to replace the diffusing lens with a clear one, then put back together and resealed. Look and work perfectly - better than new actually.

Yeah, thats what is driving my original question. I cant sand the crazing out, the scratches are deep. Of note, this happened while the headlights were covered with Lamin-X, which is disappointing. I have a few emails out to people, but I was hoping that if I can purchase halogen headlights and do some parts swapping, I would be happy since it unlocks an option for new 600 dollar headlights versus 1600.

Thanks

I have the exact same issue on mine. It was caused when I removed the ppf I had on the headlights. I tried to wetland and polish the headlights followed by 2 coats of automotive clear coat. It did absolutely nothing to even reduce the crazing.

hope someone can test out the plastic lens cover swap. Don’t want to spend $3k for new headlights when the current ones work fine.

I took mine to a professional auto detailer. {I just left the assemblies with him}. $100 later they looked spectacular.

Ive been thinking about this for a while and doing some digging. In reference to the original 997.1 halogen to 997.2 xenon conversion, looking at pictures online it looks like the casings *might* be the same, except where the halogen assemblies have the auto-leveling location capped off (but might be able to remove the cap and install the assembly). Does anyone have a halogen assembly laying around they would be willing to take a few pics and measurements?
