my front AND rear oem conversion with bumpers, lights rear module, coding, paint, install and even PPF on the new front end, was 2500 usd after selling most of the factory parts.
there are mint used oem parts out there, bumpers need to be repainted (new or used) and in some cases if there is very minor damage it gets refreshed during the paint process. headlamps, led fogs (if minor scratches) can be restored back to new (one of my fogs was majorly pitted) and reSealed as a part of the process as well.
the 997.2 was out since mid 2008 so there has been about 12.5 years of used parts on the market. there are also numerous well documented threads on various forums including rennlist re the process/parts needed for carrera/carreraWB, and turbo rear end conversions. this isn't any different then prev 996.1->996.2 conversions and there are already a few documented 991.1->991.2 conversions already as well.
the 997.2 rear does look better then the 997.1... just like how porsche also did a great job improving the rear (esp lights) on the 991.2 vs the 991.1. With that said i did have the 997.1 depo lights, they just didnt look right so I sold them.
Thanks guys for all the replies. A silly question in hindsight after seeing a .1 and a .2 from the rear in the post above. I had always thought the lens were the same shape - clearly not.
I will look into some Depo / Decane LED’s (Can someone post what these look like).
Money is always an object but this is a hobby, and hobby’s cost money so I say spend away and enjoy.
@myw helped me find a nice used rear bumper, bumperettes, rear tail lights, used module and I had to order some exhaust shrouds. Parts came out to around $1200 and then the paint job. All in I was around $2 grand. I loved the conversion, but the Depo/Dectane lights are a great option too!!
