Long story short... I love my 997.2 C4S 6-speed, but I got the aircooled hotrod itch and I am finalizing a deal this week.
Due to limited garage space and spousal "how many 911s do you need" concerns, there's a good chance my 53K mile 2010 C4S will have to go once the new ride arrives in a few weeks. I've looked into local storage and it's quite reasonable, but I know once something's in storage, it tends to stay there, which I think is against the spirit of owning a 911. Not enough ceiling clearance in the garage for a stacker or lift.
Throwing this out to my fellow 997 owners and any aspiring widebody 997.2 owners here before I tee up the whole listing process. If anyone especially in California / the Bay Area knows someone seriously looking, my 997 is a terrific, no-stories car. Have them PM me. Anyone wanting to talk me out of it, that's cool too. I expect to list around $59K and will include the few mods I have (DSC controller, numeric shifter, custom wheels, OEM GTS sport steering wheel).
The 997 has been a delight, and the car runs and drives like a dream. I am sure I will regret selling it, but life's short and I am interested in the uniqueness and adventure of a hotrod long hood. I thought I would take more road trips, but the reality of two middle/high school kids means I only use it to run errands 2-3 days a week (always taking the long way of course) and a 2 hour twisties ride once a month or so. The performance of the 997 is way above the way I drive these days, and as others have said, I spend 95% of my time in 2nd or 3rd gear. Gonna try the slow-car-fast 911 next.
Torch - how epic would it be to have it on BaT and part of our guessing game? I see it doing well there, like all of the 997's that keep outperforming what we thought the market was. Good luck with sale!

No matter what @linderpat , this doesn't get you out of having to finish those wheel center caps I sent you last fall.
Damn! I forgot all about them again. I bought another Porsche (a 928 - my 5th one) and went way down the rabbit hole. Maybe I need to pay them forward?

that's up to you, but wait ... does it take five 928s to have enough parts for one whole 928 ? This new 30+ year older porsche thing just got a lot more worrisome.
The old cars are great and a different experience, but they're not the same as the mostly trouble free driving of a 997. They're reliable, but they smell like exhaust and oil, and require tuning and more regular garage time. If that's what you're looking forward to, then by all means make the leap. Although both are 911s, having and driving each are very different experiences. I'd have a conversation with groovzilla (notice he PM'd you) as he left the 997 fold for another older air cooled, but came back once the honeymoon was over - maybe he's looking for another mistress again. Keep the one you have and add the other.
@Petza914 of course your points are spot on. Still considering keeping both if I can figure it out. My 997 is so perfectly sorted for me, I really should keep it. There isn't any way for me to improve it for my use, other than dropping $8K on LWB.
For those asking (@Spyerx@9INE97 et. al.), the new-to-me hot rod is from long time Rennlister @ninjabones
That's a very nice 911T. That listing had caught my eye as well. Well executed mechanically and aesthetically. Congrats on the purchase!
The debate over whether to keep the 997 in favor of an older car is meaningless. Obviously, it's about your situation and what makes you happy.
No reason you can't enjoy the new hot rod for awhile and come back to the 997 later if you choose.
